I stayed at Sanya Apartments a couple years ago. I had the AC on and when I woke up and opened the curtains, I was shocked to see a market had appeared overnight where there had been nothing but an open field. So, if there was any noise, I didn't hear it.

I stayed at the Sanya Appartment for about a week a few months ago. The rooms are nothing fancy, but I think a good value for a short stay, as they don't offer a monthly discount. No joiner fee, but I did not bring back more than one. It is off of Soi Baukow where the Friday/Tuesday market is. I opened the curtains there one Friday Am and was surprised to see that the market had been set up while I was asleep. I did not hear a thing while it was being set up. Sanya expanded into the the bulding next door and is in the process of finishing the new rooms. They say they will have special low rates for the 2011 low season. The WIFI was very good. I'd be happy to stay there again.

Ichy, I think that you made a good choice. Close to the beach and on a quiet soi. Some rooms are quite new, and the older rooms have been updated and look new.

Have you used your WIFI before. If not, you might want to go to some place near home that has free WIFI and try to connect. It should be easy but a little practice can't hurt. Also, more than likely you will need a password from the hotel.

I have been thinking about getting out of mutual funds and just buying stocks as well. Commission costs are so low now with internet brokers, the costs to buy and sell are insignificant. But, what stocks to buy, well that is the question that has kept me paying the percentage to the mutual fund company every year. Bad enough when the fund goes up, but hate to lose money and know that they still got their cut off the top. Like you say, I think this strategy worked because the really big cap stocks have not done as well as the smaller ones for the last 40 years. Maybe just look at the holdings of a few smaller cap mutual funds and try and buy their biggest holdings? Maybe the next 40 years will be different. Not sure what strategy to try, but I really like the idea of cutting out the percentage paid to the mutual fund. Just not sure I can do any better on my own.

There are several other similar guest houses on the same soi. All only a couple years old and they look very similar from the outside. I walked around the area this May and picked up business cards from a few of the spots, but of course I can't find them now. 700 baht sounds like a very good price for the high season. How does staying in one of these newer guest houses compare with staying at, well say the Areca Lodge that is around the corner? No pool. No breeakfast. No elevator (lift). Any other negatives? The guest house price is lower, but are there any other advantages over a hotel?

My first post was not very clear. Water and electricity are included in the monthly rate. They do have a (lower) rate for 2 months or longer that charges for electricity and water.

Thanks for setting this up! I have stayed at the Areca Lodge that is nearby a few times and I like this area. I walked through the LK Metropole and it's looks nice. I had heard rumours that it was not guest friendly, but since they have your endorsement, must be no problem. For the monthly rates, if you eat their breakfast, there is not much of a cost break, but it is nice to have the option. That is one thing that I like about the Areca. Free breakfast for you and your girlfriend. But if you most often sleep in, why not save a few baht. LK Metropole also offers lower prices for stays of 2 months or longer. But "Water supply charge 25 Baht per unit and Electricity charge 7 Baht per unit " for these long term stays only. Does anyone have any idea how many baht this would amount to?
