I was having a look for any “Best Seafood Restaurant” type thread and could not believe how far back I had to go until I found one, and being honest comments or recommendations from that long ago are often pretty useless. I have eaten at number of seafood restaurants in and around Pattaya and Jomtein, though in no way would I claim to be familiar with any of them as I’m not in town often enough and not at all in the last 12 months. I recently read on here re Longbridge Restaurant and have heard of Moom Aroi, also in Naklua. Does any BM have any recent, first hand experience of Moom Aroi, Rim Talay etc, or similar in Nakula, Pattaya or Jomtein? I don’t want to go any further. What is the best place on Walking Street? Surely a few must be at least ok? Often the WS places are slated for being poor, expensive and touristy. I feel that’s probably justified, but to be expected, however the setting and the atmosphere, I always found very pleasant. The worst I experienced was the Lobster Pot, and the best was Nang Nual. I had some great nights in Nang Nual and loved the food. Would I get much better quality in Jomtein or Naklua? I know it may be cheaper, better value etc, but is it worth the effort to save a few Baht or is the food really that good ? I ate at a place on South Jomtein Beach Rd, with tables along the other side of the road, don’t remember name, but it was just ok, though I’m sure cheaper. It was a night, mid-week and it was pretty quiet with zero atmosphere. I am meeting a friend during my next stay, a Thai lady who has lived in my home town for the last 15 years, and off course she is a seafood aficionado. Hence my post. Thanks in advance for your help.

My cheap charlie flight. I am flying with Qatar for the first time next month. I was curious before as to the price, if booking in LoS, the same journey but going the other way. I am now surprised that I seem to have got a better deal with Qatar than I thought. I booked in Jan with Lastminute.com, Belfast to Man, then on to BKK with a 2 hour stopover in Doha. Rtn in Economy for £642 / 28,500Tbt. Thats a good price especially as it is including the Belfast to Man flight. Regards,

Soi 1 & Soi 2, Any Construction work & Payment?
python replied to python's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Thanks to you all for the info. I will be there at the start of May so as that time approachs this becomes more relevant. DrPat, I have never been asked to pay anything up front. At time of booking in Jan just past, their website showed the room at 1200Tbt. When I emailed to book I was told 1250Tbt? Had to pay in full upfront, at time of booking to get 1200Tbt internet price! I declined. About 3 - 5 years ago, numerous times, I was able to book 3 or 4 rooms, for me and mates and I was never once asked to even pay a deposit. Who knows what happened, maybe too many guests didn't show or maybe they have new manager? I don't know, but the attitude has certainly changed at the Sabai Wing and Lodge. Anyone else there in May? Regards, -
Soi 1 & Soi 2, Any Construction work & Payment?
python replied to python's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
teelak, Thanks for the photo. I can see that it is not near completion so I wonder how many more storeys it has to go and will it, if it does not already, block the sun to the Sabai Lodges Ruen Thai pool area? Also, am I correct in thinking that Classroom Beer Bar and I think Toy Bar ( the bar that always had the very loud rock band, on the corner of Soi 2 & 2nd Rd) Noi Bar and the other bars on 2nd Road, between Soi 2 & Soi 3 have all now gone if this new hotel is fronting on 2nd Road? Regards, -
Soi 1 & Soi 2, Any Construction work & Payment?
python replied to python's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Gents, Thanks for the info. I think it may be easiest to pay cash on arrival for the first 2 nights then take it from there. teelak, I am staying in Sabai Wing and would use the Ruen Thai pool also, or Garden pool I think they now call it, so I hope the noise stops or at least is not to loud. The construction thats is ongoing on Soi 2, I take its on the area that was covered by the now demolished beer bars, between Classroom beer bar and the big Thai pub with the car park to the front? is the work nearly finished as it must have been a year since they started? I look forward to your photos. Regards, -
Gents, Curious to know if there are any on going long term construction sites or any construction imminent on Soi 2 but especially on Soi 1? Is the big development between Soi 2 & 3 now complete? Also. anyone who checked in or out recently. Did you pay in full when they swiped your card on check in? I normally stay on 4th or 5th floor of Sabai Wing so the height etc helps with noise. I stayed here many time but I am concerned as I expect to be compelled to pay in full on arrival then the thought of being subjected to excessive noise, wishing to leave and drama with refund etc. Any other serious issues would be a first for me here but I am pissed off, on principal, regards the thought of paying in full on arrival. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Guys,

Thought I'd share my recent experience regards booking the Sabai Wing online. I am sure its the same for Sabai Lodge. I know Sabai Inn is different. I have stayed in Sabai Lodge/Wing maybe 18 times over the last 7 years or so. So, obviously I like the place. Never had any probs or been asked for any money up front on booking. Last week I emailed Sabai Lodge to confirm availability at advertised web price of 1200Tbt for Deluxe Pool View. My email was answered promptly confirming availability and that the price would be 1250Tbt per night and 1250Tht for my late checkout. Previosly a late checkout was half the nightly rate! When I queried this price I was told that web price was a "special price" that I could only get if I confirmed and payed now in full. I just made my reservation and payed nothing so I will pay 1250Tbt a night, hopefully on checking out. Intend to say I have no CC on arrival. Will see what happens. Would you pay a Thai hotel the full amount, 5 months in advance to save £16 / 800Tbt ? This combined with comments from others re paying on arrival, full price for late checkout, policy change re online prices, maybe Sabai feel there may still be building noise even when I will be there in May and check out after 2 nights? This all displays, I feel, a change in attitude by Sabai. Perhaps its just got so popular, many Russians etc, they now call the shots and if you don't like it then too bad.

MM & Gents, Sorry if this has been asked before, but, what was the the reasoning behind the decision to remove the flag from beneath the posters name when posting? I thought it useful to know what part of the world a poster/question came from, as maybe relevant to reply. Regards to all,

UK Channel 4 Report on Thailand's Roads
python replied to CheshireTom's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I read this before and was surprised initialy by lack the of experience of roads and or driving in Thailand, but then I remembered that the families that started their campaign in the UK have probably never been in in LoS and have no idea as to how cheap road death is i LoS. So, thinking how Thai's drive as they do, is this such a surprise? For example, recently, I learned a lot from my Thai minibus driver, Hua Hin to Pattaya, 6hrs each way. Early November in Bangkok, the rain showers got extremely heavy. Rain bouncing knee high and slip roads flooding. Low visibility. Forget about reducing your speed, leaving more distance between you and the vehicle in front, All you got to do is turn your hazard lights on and your vehicle can go at 130kmp, 4m behind the vehicle in front!!!! Why I never think of that! Thailand is the 2nd worst country in the world for road deaths. Second to South American country that I can not which! Honduras I think? So, be warned, take care. I wish the mothers from UK greatest success with their Camapaign !! Regards, -
I have flown with Eva a few times and they are good. Very good. I thought the food was poor but they are new planes, great entertainment, and in my experience, reliable. I live in Belfast and Eva means a night in London for me on the return because of late arrival. Thai is my preference. Thai flights from BKK can arrive early in the morning and this means an easier connection for me. Equats to an extra day in LoS as opposed to some shit hotel near LHR and avoids an early rise after my last night! I've done some stop-over flights, usually with Emirates, and they are also a great airline, but as said, not the same quality of plane from Dubai on. For around a £100-£150 or so extra I prefer direct flights. Saves maybe 2-7 hrs stop-over time and maybe 4- 6hrs flying time each way!! Also fewer chances of delays and fuck ups. May not be too bad outward but, nothing is worse than a stop-over,then a delay or other fuck up when you just want to get home! BA and QANTAS, I will not chance/use unless I get some great deal. I find them to be an absolute shambles. My last choice. Would consider indirect flight before using them. Regards,

Flood Impact on Supplies
python replied to Cookie Monster's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Hi, I just got this sent to me and it seemed to be on topic: Beer Supplies Regards, -
Hi, As others advise, and I agree, take it to Sarah. She repaired a watch for me and it that had a weight come of the auto winding part. Also, I remember she kept the links if you asked her to shorten a bracelet. I thinks she would be the best bet. She, rather the son fixed mine for a few hundred baht. just ask first ref cost. Regards,

Getting back to the original post..... I am surprised that the police took any notice and actually bothered to act. Obviously the Tourist Police on Walking Street. A couple of years ago I was seated in the Toy Bar, the bar on the corner of Soi 2 that blasts the terrible rock music out from their band. Not a usual place I frequent. Three middle aged falangs, standing at the bar are having a conversation that is getting heated. The middle guy gesticulates. I spot, a very real looking, what I knew to be a Colt 45 pistol in his waste band. I thought fuck! Their conversation carries on and I start drinking up. Thirty seconds later he pulls the gun. Starts pointing it around the bar at customers, pausing his aim at every second or third person. This was the first time that most became aware of the gun. He placed it back in his waste band. I fucked off sharpish. I went to Sabai Lodge reception. Receptionist rang police and told them what happened then passed phone to me. I gave descriptions, what happened, confirmed who I was etc. Half hour later, I walked past Toy Bar. No police. Next morning I asked girls I knew in bars to either side, guess what? no police ever came! Soi 2 must be too far from walking Street Tourist Police! Regards,

Monkeyman, Where exactly is this condo block being built on Soi 1? I know that if I go onto Soi 1 from Sabai Wing, it could not be opposite me and to the right is the Sabai Wing building work i have already mentioned and to the left that condo block was completed two years ago! So surely any other ongoing building work must be some distance away?

Just to inform any that be considering travelling to or from Pattaya to Hua Hin. The minibus leaves Hua Hin every 2 hours from 0800 to 1800, and from Pattaya. I assume every day. No pre booking required and costs 400Tbt each way. Though I bought my return ticket at the same time as I planned to ask the driver to pick me up at the hotel on Soi 1 on return. He agreed to this and that was helpful. I later realised he would have collected me in Hua Hin as my hotel was passed enroute. I set off from HH at 1200 on a Friday, a couple of weeks ago. Scheduled stops are Bangna, Chonburi, Bang Saen, Sriracha, Pattaya, Najomtien and then Sattahip. But, in addition the driver will have umpteen personal stops to make as the bus zig zags along its way. Delivering, collecting parcels, many unscheduled passenger pickups & drop offs, often entailing heavy traffic. The most frustrating thing though, where the frequent fuel stops. He stopped 3 times there and twice on the return. Once, we waited in line for 30 mins to get fuel! The minibuses are LPG with small tanks. JohnnyK was spot on regards times. 5hrs 30min there and 6 hrs back. After the posts regarding a ferry or catamaran service I think I start to understand why that did not suceed. Both journeys I made, full bus. Outward, myself and one other falang. Return, I was only falang. All other passengers are Thai. I think maybe street traders carrying many bags and packages. I don't think these people would pay 1600Tbt each way if they can get a bus for 400Tbt! So, simply not enough falang. I think a larger, much cheaper, ferry type boat sailing once a day, to say Laem Chabang would be popular. But, there are no port faciities at Hua Hin, just fishing pier and I doubt that would do. Would I reccommend this service? 400Tbt for this bus or 2700Tbt in a taxi seem to be the only options, so, I think yes, I would. Just be prepared to be on the bus for 6 hours and not 4 hours like the guy that sold you the ticket promised! Hua Hin is nice, great seafood and cheap. I would certainly reccomend a side trip to Hua Hin for a few days. Regards,

I tell u what, don't flatter yourself! you just ignore my posts. I think that would be best. You simply bore me. I believe if more BM's adopted this attitude then perhaps you would not feel obliged to comment on every post. Maybe, after some time, you would understand that there is no requirement for your comment. I believe many would welcome this thought! Regards,

Well, you are being a cunt, your word, get a life, though, not that I care. But cunts, like you, don't help. This is my first attempt to post photos. Glad I bothered. I accept that this board and others like it are the highlight of your day, so jacko, just ignore my posts. Hate to bore you.

I know that other BM's as are interested in this hotel I am, so I will try to post a few pics I took only last week: The hotel really does seem to be on the up. I just hope the local area is also. The building with the scaffolding, beside the pool, is the extension to the Sabai Wing on Soi 1. Noise minimal. I heard nothing. Look at the guys on the scaffold at the top of the building! Regards,

Soi 2, Last Sunday, Hope it works this time! At last, I'm posting photos!! Only took me over 6 years to bother! For those interested, I will try to post photos of the building work around Sabai Lodge and the new "Garden Pool" that was previously the Ruen Thai pool. It is a great improvement. Pool is the same just renamed, new bar(open) and restuarant(opening soon) and the whole pool sun lounger area is much bigger, as the chalets have gone and entire pool area has been resurfaced. Regards.
