  1. EP, thanx for taking the time to do these reports. I for one enjoy them. Tell me though, I do hope the Dicey Reilly's lamb rogan josh tasted better than it looked, did it?
  2. Jacko, Thank you. That link was helpful.
  3. Gents, If a married British couple wish to retire to Thailand, is it 2 separate Visas, so double costs there, and still 800k Tbt in Thai bank for each?
  4. Hi, I think you are talking about "Prik Nam Pla" Basically what you said, no set recipe as such as the exact ingredients will vary from chef to chef. Typically though: lime juice, birds eye chillies, brown sugar, minced garlic, but not in vinegar, it is mixed in Thai fish sauce.
  5. I think you will find its normal, traditional, ceremonial parade dress for House Hold Cavalry, but then I'm sure you knew that but just thought you are being funny! Jacko, yes still free, at least last time I was there. firth 1974, thanks for all your London photos. They bring back nice memories to me.
  6. I have iPhone5 also, as far as I can remember it uses what Apple call a micro sim. I would think most easily available upstairs at Big C. Same Same, But smaller!
  7. Hi, I found this on Thai Visa I thought it was worth a look: www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/693735-some-interesting-statistics-about-brits-retiring-to-los/?utm_source=newsletter-20140103-0831&utm_medium=email&utm_ Sorry I can not seem to get the link facility to work for me, but have a look and I would be interested to hear your thoughts. British press as usual has little positive to say. All the hard luck stories, sad as they are, I would bet there are far more that made the move and never looked back! Regards,
  8. I agree. Best pizza I have had in Asia, plus I enjoy the walk back, heading South, as a few of the bars between Pizza Big and Pattaya Nui Road have supplied a good few companions over the years..
  9. Yes, I remember that go-go and had a few good nights there thanks to LVP. I met Paul a few times and I am sad to hear this news. I wish him the best.
  10. I agree. There are far to many vehicles, both 2 and 4 wheel, on the roads in Pattaya. The widening of Beach Rd will/has only provided more parking space and solve nothing. I think Baht Buses and motorbikes should be allowed on Beach Rd but controls or restrictions could be placed on parking and vehicles such as coaches and lorries that may not need to be on that road. What other city would allow coaches to park the length of its main street then pay to widen the road? Also, what pisses me off are the arseholes driving huge 4x4's up and down Soi's like 6,7 & 8 that any busy with pedestrians just because they can . As for the BB drivers scamming passengers, could City Hall not make a real attempt to ensure the BB drivers clearly display charges in the back like you see in some BB's or put signs explaining costs and routes along the various BB circuits? I don't think the price is an issue, and besides how stupid would you have to be when you every other passenger handing the driver a coin, or getting change from a 20Tbt note when they get off.
  11. I had the same thought as I enjoyed the photos posted. After taking many photos recently, I know the girls do not appreciate having their photo taken! period from Soi6 to WS! Maybe attitude just differs from BKK to Pats. I wonder why? Anyway, thanks for posting and please keep them coming. Regards,
  12. Hi, Surely pizza hut is poor by any standard? I am confident that I could get better pizza from the freezer in a local supermarket. Corporate chain outlets do not care. Pizzas are pizzas for them, that is it. While we are on the subject of pizza and corporate chains etc, why is it that KFC, do not sell breast or fillet meat in Asia? only thigh or dark leg meat. Is white breast meat considered too good for fast food?
  13. Albez , With the exception of the Chalets at the Dolphin pool I have stayed in all the room types in Sabai Lodge. I would not stay in the cheapest rooms along the edge of the car park as found them dark, noisy and small. Unless some have been refurbished I feel all the rooms are all a bit tired and could use a bit of a refit and a lick of paint. I liked the Deluxe A rooms at the rear of the large pool. I liked the veranda to have a smoke and drink on but now I don't smoke it is less of an issue. Would recommend the newly built/refitted chalet rooms at the garden pool. Very convenient, I would guess 1500Tbt a night. I stayed there once and it was nice. My last 4 or 5 trips I stayed in Deluxe Pool View room Sabai Wing. I like these newish rooms as described above by Ularu. On my last stay in May the Dolphin Pool was reserved for a Golfing Party and the Sabai Wing pool was full of Russian kids from first light to about 8 every night. As a result the other 2 pools got pretty full. Regards,
  14. Hi, yes all valuables locked away so I did not lose anything. All that she took was her bag that I would have returned to her next day in any case. Not really the point though, just pissed me off that the hotel allowed this to happen and obviously had no clue as to what was who's property. I agree with the points above by Ularu and think I was just unlucky regarding the duty manager on the night. The construction noise came from one of two sources, or both on some days! At the top of the pool the chalet rooms where being refurbished. Some days a lot of handtools, drilling, sawing and tile cutting etc, other days nothing. These would be finished by now. The hotel looked pretty much the same to me as it does in the earlier photos by teelak. Just a few floors higher but not near completion. Regards,
  15. Hi, I love good pizza, its all about base then sauce, but it is hard to get in Pattaya. However, I think I can get pizza in Pattaya thats comparable with most major cities that I've tried all over Europe including Itay. I am not claiming to have eaten pizza in every pizza shop in Pats but I have tried many. My opinion the worst.............. 1st Hopf House on Beach Road 2nd Pizza Hut on 2nd Road 3rd Pizza Company on Beach Road 4th Any of those stalls I have tried that sell pizza by the slice. The best............... 1st Pizza Big on Nakula Road 2nd Mama's Cafe on Soi 6 3rd Sorry, but I could not think of another place I would recommend. These are the only two places I would go unless I get a recommedation from someone I trust and then try, as I have guys tell me Hopf House was good!!! Hopf House, Pizza Hut, WTF must they have been on? Regards,
  16. Albez, On arrival at Sabai Wing, early last month, I was asked to produce a credit card as I expected, but I was also asked if I wanted to pay now or later. Naturally, I said I would pay later, "no problem" came the reply so I payed 16 days later in full by cc at lunchtime prior to leaving that evening. A couple of other things I noticed on my stay was the you no longer can get towels at the pool and the noise at times, at the Ruan Thai/Garden pool as the constructionof the huge hotel at the top of Soi 2 continues. Another thing that I experienced, a BG from Soi 3 who pissed me off, so I told her where to go and left her in her bar. I went elsewhere to drink just to see her pass by later with 2 girls carrying a bag that she had left in my room earlier. I thought WTF!!!! I returned to hotel and spoke with the Duty Manager at reception. I was pretty angry, I asked why he allowed access to a stranger? how he knew it was her property she was removing, what if any of my personal items are missing from my room? all meet with a shrug of the shoulders. Spoke with General Manager next day, he agreed with me and denied this could happen so informed him this was logged in the occurrence book at reception. He assurred me he would get back to me but never did. This would not have happened before. My attitude is changing towards Sabai Wing & Sabai Lodge.
  17. gazzab, Perhaps you are getting confused with the different types of poster i.e. senior, super, elite, paricipant etc? These titles or groups are related to the number of posts made by that member. A certain number of posts makes you a senior poster then x amount more posts makes you a super poster and so on. Nothing to do with advancement or seniority. At least thats the way I understand it.
  18. DrPat, I am in a deluxe pool view in Sabai Wing and I am certain that not all the rooms have baths, I asked before to change rooms once I was shown a room with shower only. Then again, maybe you are correct and all now have baths? Regards,
  19. Hi, Checked in today. The very pleasant guy behind the reception claimed to remember me well. Then asked me if I wanted to pay now or later!!!!! I said later. He say ok. I asked him to confirm that the room he offered me had infact got a bath, he checked said yes. First time in last 5 trips. A five star start. Regards,
  20. DrPat, How did your weekend go, anything to report? Did you get a "traditional swipe" or pay up front? Any noise or other issues? I'll be there in 5 days Regards,
  21. Gents, I have just read this on ThaiVisa. I think this would be great news should it get underway in 2015 and would surely impact on Pattaya, being only a couple of hours down the road. Also imagine prices for flights and hotels will go crazy for the week of the racing. Regards, BANGKOK: -- Thailand is making progress with its plans to hold an inaugural Formula 1 race in 2015 after local authorities approved the layout for the proposed Bangkok track this week. The Sports Authority of Thailand met on Thursday to discuss the concept, and confirmed that a 5.995 kilometre circuit would be created near the Royal Thai Naval Dockyard in Bangkok. The circuit will run past several major tourist destinations, including the Grand Palace, the Temple of Dawn and Victory Monument. Full story: http://www.autosport...t.php/id/107055
  22. Just curious, how old do you think the Google imagery being used of Pattaya on Street View is? I am guessing about 12 months old?
  23. Greg, Thats good to hear. I have been a fan of Sabai Lodge/Wing for a number of years. While I never had any complaints, I have noticed changes in policy & attitude. Regards,
  24. Gents, Curious as to when this has been available from? I was on another board and a BM stated that it should be available later this year, but when I checked it seems to work fine for me now. I was looking for an eatery. Looks great. Is this maybe only in UK at present or worldwide? I don't know. Regards,
