Yep, no bomb anyway: source: http://www.pattayamail.com/current/news.shtml#hd1 Eight people died and scores were injured in a fire that broke out at Route 999 Pattaya Discotheque on the evening of May 7. Subsequent investigations indicate a technician who slipped and fell while holding a gas torch might have caused the fire. About 100 firefighters, police, and Sawang Boriboon Foundation rescue workers were called to the Pattaya Third Road premises when the fire was reported at 9 p.m. They found the fire had spread quickly along the foam ceiling that had been installed to absorb the loud noise of the disco music. Firemen tried to douse the blaze with water but the foam was highly combustible, and the flames prevented access via the front entrance. Rescue workers discovered that many people were trapped inside the building. Using oxygen masks to protect themselves from the smoke and toxic fumes, rescuers broke into the premises from the rear, breaking down a wall with a sledgehammer. The injured were carried out and ferried to a number of hospitals in the area, including Pattaya Memorial Hospital, Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, Pattaya International Hospital, Banglamung Hospital, Somdej Pranag Jao Sirikit Hospital in Sattahip, and Chonburi Hospital. It took firefighters three hours to extinguish the blaze, after which investigators began searching through the charred remains of the disco to find the cause. Amongst the bodies found was the charred remains of the bartender, identified as Kamnung. The owners of Route 999 are Wicha Baopimpa, 39, and his brother, Chaiya Baopimpa, 44. The disco was located on a 2-rai plot of land, the building itself covering half of that area. It was built with an investment of 40 million baht, and had been open for only five months. The owners had an insurance policy with Viriya Insurance, with a coverage policy of 60 million baht. Chaiya stated that while he was in a meeting at the building, he heard an explosion. He fled the premises but he didn’t know what had caused the fire. Wicha was overseas on a business trip but returned immediately. At 11 a.m. on May 8, Pol Lt Gen Jongrak Juthanon, commander-in-chief of Region 2, and Pol Maj Gen Anan Charoenchasri, commander-in-chief of Pattaya police, came to inspect the scene of the fire. Mayor Niran Watthanasartsathorn and Pol Col Paisan Wongwatsana, a forensic specialist, accompanied the two officers. Investigators found that the fire had started from the area of the DJ booth on the left side of the building. Pol Lt Gen Jongrak said that a technician identified as Kamnung Paolek, 29, had been repairing the air conditioning system over the DJ zone. He was using a torch to weld the pipe together. It is surmised that while he was doing this there was a spark, causing him to fall. If he had the torch in his hand he could have ignited the foam, causing the fire to spread quickly. Kamnung died at the scene. Mrs Yaowarat Puttimanoradeekul of Chonburi Social Insurance Department said that the department would help out the families of the deceased with 1,840,000 baht for each death. Their relatives can immediately apply for this amount. Those injured must first check to see if they have the right to use Social Insurance. Mayor Niran and Pattaya City civil engineer Pichet Uthaiwattananon said that after the fire they checked the records of Route 999 and found that the building had the correct licenses from Pattaya City. However, they will further check to see if the premises exceeded the limits of the licenses, and if this is found to be the case the directors of the company could be facing legal proceedings. Pattaya City controls the building works and standards of all entertainment establishments. This is to ensure they have appropriate construction. A license is needed for changing the building.

Hi ya'll, I stayed at Soi Diana at the Areca 26nov-13dec 2005, my TGF works on Soi Bukhao, very narrow street indeed, the first time I crossed the road on Diana Inn I almost got hit by a motorcycle because I was looking in the wrong direction, hahahahaha. From that moment on I was very carefull, always walking the opposite direction, so I can see the traffic coming. Will be there again on May 20, really looking forward to it, staying there and will make a trip to Koh Chang for about 5 days. Many girls there indeed, and quite some ladyboys in the evening...... Anyone know a nice place where I can play darts there????

Hi there, Last year was my first trip to Thailand, 23nov-14dec 2005. I went straight to Pattaya, stayed there for about a week, then went to the South (Krabi, Ao Nang, Krabi town, Phiphi) for a few days and came back to Pattaya again after that. Got stung by a mosquito only twice, and that was when I was having dinner outside in the evening in Krabi. I am going again next month, from 19may-9juni. A week Pattaya, a few days BKK, max 5 days at Koh Chang and end it again in Pattaya. This time it will be 30-35C compared to nov/dec this time will feel much hotter, luckily it does not bother me that much, even when wearing jeans... Enjoy yourselves :-) -

Arriving alone First time in pattaya
Jollyblaze replied to celtic's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
yes indeed, great time, but 2 weeks of Pattaya is enough for me, it seemed so quiet at Ao Nang, even more at the PhiPhi's.......especially the traffic and all the ladies and ladyboys not being there Having doubts about May, 1 week Pattaya and 1 week either Koh Chang or Koh Samui with thai g/f in a nice bungalow with a kingsized bed at a beach, if it rains......well....we will just have to stay inside untill it stops raining won't we now -

Sawat di krahp! I went to Pattaya alone, from nov 23 - dec 13 (very die krahp) Stayed in the Areca Lodge, Soi Diana Inn, off Second Road and Soi Bukhao. Chua? yeah Chua! tip - be carefull in the traffic, also when walking and crossing, look towards both sides many times, I always walked towards the oncoming traffic, or get a bahtbus, mai pen rai! Enjoyed my stay, my g/f works at an internetshop on Soi Bukhao, I usually drank a few at Pook Swan House before meeting up with her after she finishes work. We went to Walking Street (Tony's, Lucifer, Killkenny's, big beerbar on righthandside, coming from the beachroad direction), Big C mall for movie, Royal Garden Plaza mall on Beach/Second road, Kiss & Food on second road, near Soi Diana Inn and to Jomtien beach and North Pattaya Naklua for the opening of a friends restaurant / Budhist Monk ceremony and delicious food offcourse. We went to Krabi Province together, Ao Nang beach, Krabi Town, Railay, PhiPhi Islands, I really enjoyed myself and will try to go back in May, although that is when the rainy season starts, wanted to go to Pattaya and Koh Chang, but might go further South as the weather should be a bit better then. Hope you enjoy yourself! Chokdee krahp hey sexy man, where you go??? you want short time, can do long time also, mai pen rai, hahahahaha - me reply mai chai baby tell streetvendors Mai auw krahp with a smile -

55 days to go thanks for the info, will have a look there I will be in Thailand for 20/21 days, will be in Pattaya for at least a week before travelling south to Krabi or to Koh Samui. I was thinking, 1500 euro should be enough to get by right? For eating, drinking, sleeping, internal flight to the south, etc. -
55 days to go for me, will be staying in the Areca Lodge and enjoy the pool too, When I want a nice beach, I'll go to Koh Samui or the Krabi region.
