Looks like I'll be back in LOS in 2 weeks time and the cheapest option is £475 with Qatar. Anybody recommend them ? Also, is Doha a dry airport or is alchohol available ? Any info is greatly received. Thanks, Dode

I voted for jalfrezi but it's just ocurred to me that I don't know the name or location of your bar/restaurant.

Check out the Areca Lodge - it's in the middle of the action and has all the requirements you listed. http://www.arecalodge.com/index.htm. About "sois" - these, in English, are lanes e.g. when people refer to sois 1 to soi 13 etc these are lanes that connect Beach Road to 2nd Road. Check out the maps on this forum to give yourself a better understanding. Hope this helps, George

Dynasty Inn Grande Soi 6 BKK
dode replied to PlanetWave's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I stayed there last October. Paid 2280 baht for a large room. Agree about the bathroom - has a large walk in shower and separate bath. Staff were all very helpful and the food was good too. Must have been impressed as I'm booked in there for two nights next weekend. Also, if you're going to stay at one of the Dynastys in Patts for two nights they provide a free minibus - leaves at 11:00am so you arrive in Pattaya about 1pm. George -
Rhand, I stayed several times at the East Sea up until 2002. I would recommend you request a room in the New Wing - these used to be 1100-1200 baht back in 2002. It has a great pool and the food is good, the only drawback is that there was no in room safe and the safes behind the reception desk could only be accessed until 20:00 but this may have changed over the last four years. All in all, a great place to chill and only a 5 minute walk to the Dusit where you are back on the main baht bus circuit. Dode.

Thanks for the info guys. Thought as much about the transport situation into town but handy to know it has it's own evening minibus. As no one mention it, I assume there is no joiner fee ? Dode

Anybody got any recent info on the Dynasty Resort. It looks good on the Dynasty website , just wanted to know if it comes recommended. Also, it doesn't appear to be on a baht bus route , is this right ? If so are baht buses available from the hotel into Pattaya and how much to "charter" one. Thanks for any info, Dode

Any idea how long the journey from the new BKK will be to Nana Plaza ?

I buy the microwaveable stuff out of Tescos. Nice and chewy - just how I like my popcorn.

Try Charlie Place on the corner of Soi Diana inn and Soi Bukhao. I stayed there in March - 650 Baht per night - and paid 200 baht per day to use Areca Lodge's pool and facilities. After 3 days in Charlie Place Areca staff informed me that they had found a room at 990 baht. Sorry, don't have a phone number or email address for Charlie Place. Dode

which travel agent do you book China through ?

I stayed at Mac Resort Hotel right in the middle of White Sands Beach. Wanted 2200 baht but came down to 1900 per night for 4 nights including breakfast. Nice pool looking onto beach and ringed off so beach traders can't hustle you. Very friendly and helpful staff. Would recommend it to all to try out. Dode

Can't comment on Bliss but I stayed at Charlie Place last week on the corner of Soi Diana Inn and Soi Bukaow for 650 THB per night. Rooms are very big, no pool but has a bar and restaurant. If anyone tries the place make sure you get a room on the 5th or 6th floor so there's no noise from the traffic below. Dode

Anybody seen cheap flights for going to LOS in the middle of August ?
-
Thanks for the info Winston. Kit has obviously taken a dislike to the place but that's down to him. I hope he's not referring to me as a newbie as this will be my 12th trip to LOS. I've stayed in a variety of Pattaya hotels ranging from 150 THB to 1200 THB a night and for 5 nights in March I will be trying out the RG. I will post my own opinion of the place after that. Cheers, Dode

Just a couple of questions about the RG. 1: Does the RG have a laundry service ? 2: Do they provide towels for use around the pool ? Dode

Are taxis for 1500-1800 THB still available in the arrivals hall ? I was under the impression Thai Limos had the monopoly there and that's why they could get away with charging 4500 THB.

Guys, I'll be back in Pattaya in June for the first time in 4 years and people say the place has changed a lot in that time. I've read the reviews on cheap accomodation but I'm undecided on a number of hotels. I'd appreciate any comments, good or bad on any of the following: Sky Top - 2nd Road, Diana Millenium - Soi Buakhao, The Roof Top - near R G, and Vinai Place - Soi Vinai Place off 3rd Road. I don't think any off these have a pool but I've been told the humidity in June makes it unlikely that I'd want to lie by one all day - any truth in this ? Like I said, any commen

As she gave her address as Tescos she's probably stacking shelves until you return as she "no go with other farang"

You can live on 40k IMHO. Once you suss out Pattaya you'll know the best restaurants for cheap food and which bars do happy hours and at what time of day. If you're staying long term then you can get a good deal on a studio flat or even just a room. The TGs are the ones that put a strain on your wallet but you should still be able to squeeze in a few short times each week ;D Plus, when it's low season and there a few farangs about you'll find TGs at a very reasonable rate too You may not be able to live a playboy lifestyle but you will survive no problem I'm sure. All the best, D

Can anybody give advice on teaching English in LOS. Is there a demand for English teachers in Pattaya and the surrounding area or is the demand mainly confined to Bangkok ? Also, any idea about rates of pay and if proper qualifications are required ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Dode :)

Paul, Spoke to a friend of mine last night. He stayed in the Rising Sun last December. He confirmed the facilities mentioned in the post above by Druid BUT also said the rooms stank of damp which in turn made all clothes in the room stink of damp He went back in June for the World Cup and says he found another place about 5 doors down from the Rising Sun called the S.A. Hotel or SA Hotel which was far superior and cost only 500 baht per night. :) He still used the Rising Sun as his local watering hole as he says it's a good bar and does great English brea

Religions not the problem ??? Your comments on the troubles in Northen Ireland just confirm the fact that you're on a different planet my friend ! Maybe you could send the religious fanatics out there some of the medication you're taking. That should pacify them for a while . Dode
