  1. I e-ticket all my flights and just e-ticketed my last trip with EVA Air and didn't have any real problems. If you buy off the net, print the page that usually says "Print This For Your Records". It should have your ticket number on there somewhere. You should also get an email to the addy you listed that will have all that info plus intinerary and seats, if selected. Show up at the airport with the e-ticket and credit card and you're good to go. The only problems I had was both times at TPE. I checked in at LAX and BKK. Normally, with a paper ticket, they'll staple the coupon to the boa
  2. Yep, gotta agree. LAX is the worst major international airport I have ever been to. What a shithole! I was working the day LA Center lost all their radios. If you didn't know, the problem was human error and the idiots who run the FAA. Human error because the maintenance guy (who was in training) basically didn't dump a computer's memory after 30 days like he was supposed to. It was the FAA's fault because they knew the system would shut down automatically if this maintenance wasn't done. Not only would it shut down, but it shuts down without warning! Gotta love those fucking bureau
  3. 28 October 2004 Taipei international (TPE) – Los Angeles International (LAX) EVA Air Flight 16 (BR 16) B744 Combi B-16406 Scheduled Departure – 2355, Actual – 2350, Airborne – 0006 Scheduled Arrival – 2045, Actual – 1942, Gate – 1952 Evergreen Deluxe Class, Seat 30A (Window) TPE – Gate C6, LAX – Gate 103 I left the EVA Air Lounge fairly late. So late in fact, that I was one of the last persons onboard the aircraft. My previous experience with the EVA Lounge in TPE was early morning. This time, it was late night. There is no difference in the lounge from mornin
  4. 28 October 2004 Bangkok International (BKK) – Taipei international (TPE) EVA Air Flight 68 (BR 68) B744 Combi B-16406 Scheduled Departure – 1615, Actual – 1629, Airborne – 1649 Scheduled Arrival – 2050, Actual – 2052, Gate – 2058 Evergreen Deluxe Class, Seat 28A (Window) BKK – Gate 34, TPE – Gate C6 Boarding in BKK is a little more hectic than most places. I’m not sure why, it just seems that way. This flight had numerous people continuing to TPE from Europe, so they were afforded the opportunity to board first and reclaim their seats. Next was the call for F
  5. EVA Air BKK Check-in & Lounge Experience EVA begins check-in at BKK 2 hours prior to scheduled departure. I thought it was 3 hours so I was left sitting like a dummy at the counters for a little bit. Well, I’m always sitting like a dummy because I’d rather be early at the airport then get left behind. Regardless of what row EVA uses for check-in at BKK, they’ve always been aligned, from far (closest to immigration) to near (closest to the terminal entrance), First Class/Business Class/EVA Air Gold Members, Evergreen Deluxe (non-US destinations), Economy (non-US destinations),
  6. I was going to right and post the final 2 legs of my EVA trip but had to go into work today. I will get to work on them and hope to post them by Sunday evening (US time). If they're not up then, it'll have to wait until Thursday or Friday due to work.
  7. You're unlikely to find a hotel with VCRs in the room. The reasons are simple, DVD/VCD players are inexpensive and DVD/VCDs are cheaper to buy and maintain. Oh yeah, and they don't have to be rewound!
  8. I'm not sure what facility you're referring to, but in all likelihood the controllers did what is known as a handoff. In your example, Controller A calls Controller B (several methods to do this) and says something like, "Handoff, VFR". Controller B then comes on and says, "go ahead." Controller A gives him the information that goes something like this, "LAX, 5 south, beacon code 1234, N1234A, Cesnna 172, 3500, going to or transitioning to (whatever)." Controller B, as Controller A tells him this, is writing it on a strip and looking at his radar. Controller B looks at LAX, then 5 miles s
  9. 20 October 2004 Taipei International (TPE) – Bangkok International (BKK) EVA Air Flight 211 (BR 211) Airbus 332 B-16305 Scheduled Departure – 0830, Actual – 0854, Airborne – 0909 Scheduled Arrival – 1120, Actual – 1118, Gate – 1130 Premium Laurel (Business) Class, Seat 6A (Bulkhead Window) TPE – Gate C5, BKK – Gate 32 I arrived at the gate just as they announced boarding. It was the same as LAX, Business Class and elites, followed by coach. I was about the 5th person in line again and noted this didn’t appear to be a full flight. Through the gate and down the
  10. EVA Air Business Class Lounge – Taipei EVA’s lounges are located on the 4th floor. You take the escalators up just prior to the duty free shops. Up the escalator, turn right and follow the signs. Entering the lounge, the First Class is to the left and Business Class is to the left. The first impression I had of the lounge was that it was big! There was definitely some length to the lounge. As you enter, off to the left, is a huge flat screen TV tuned to news. I think it was playing CNN International. A little further left were 2 internet terminals. They were laptops with a
  11. I've been busy with work since I've returned and will get the rest of my legs posted here this weekend. I'm planning on completing them Friday night to have posted sometime Saturday (US time).
  12. I think it's BR Flight 211 (TPE-BKK) that uses the A332. I'm fairly sure it continues BKK-VIE (Vienna, Austria) and that's why it's not a B744. It's a great plane with a decent set-up. I had the choice of a 0830 or 0905 departure from TPE. Both were scheduled B744, though, so I took the 0830 flight. Really no need to wait in this instance, but it worked out in the end.
  13. I bought the ticket at EVA's website 3 weeks prior to my trip for $900 all-in.
  14. Well, technically, airlines never do this as it's a violation of law. Airlines also never cancel flights because there aren't enough seats sold.
  15. As previously noted, an Evergreen Deluxe seat is not guaranteed in case of equipment change.
  16. Well, here are a couple reasons: 1) It's still kinda early. The airlines will gladly accept $1400 for the seat now but will reduce prices later on if they're not selling. 2) It's cold as hell in Minnesota January-March. You know it and the airlines know it. Folks up north probably want to haul ass in the winter for a bit to warm up. I recommend emailing a consolidator for prices. A decent one out of Chicago is Angel Travel
  17. Note: I wrote this for another website but will share the first leg here. If you're interested in the other 3 legs, let me know and I'll get around to posting them here, as well. 19 October 2004 Los Angeles International (LAX) – Taipei International (TPE) EVA Air Flight 15 (BR 15) Boeing 744 Combi B-16461 Scheduled Departure – 0120, Actual – 0132, Airborne – 0148 Scheduled Arrival – 0610, Actual – 0553, Gate – 0557 Evergreen Deluxe Class, Seat 29K (Window) LAX - Gate 102, TPE – Gate C2 I’ll just state out front that I really enjoy flying in Evergreen Deluxe
  18. Generally in golf, the low score wins. With the Stableford system, the high score wins. It awards points for aggressive play. The point system varies but I've mostly played this: Double Eagle (Albatross) or Hole-In-One 7 Eagle 5 Birdie 3 Par 1 Bogey -1 Double Bogey -3 Triple and above -5 (speeds up the match by picking up and moving to the next hole)
  19. Nothing pisses me off more than sitting in TPE and waiting for EVA to see if the SEA flight is gonna make it on time. I think those delays are usually on the NYC part of the trip, though.
  20. What flight are you coming in on? If my flight is late I may wait....no promises, though. I'm actually scheduled to arrive at 1045am.
  21. What time you getting in? I'm on EVA Flight 211 TPE-BKK arriving around 1130AM.
  22. Forever, You can book tickets on EVA's website for trips to/from Dallas. They will route you on AA or Continental out of DFW or Love to either LAX or SFO. I did a search and they come up with Evergreen Deluxe tickets at $990. You'll have to fly coach to LAX or SFO, but it's not that long of a flight. Another thing you may want to try is looking at flying Southwest to LAX. You'll have to price Dallas-LAX with them, then price EVA at their website. If you book far enough in advance, I believe a trip is possible for $925-950.
  23. Pattaya has been talking of doing this for at least the previous 6 years and it still hasn't happened. It'll get done one of these years, but I suspect not in the next 1-2 years.
  24. I book at EVA's website and they let you choose your seats there. If you have your ticket, you may be able to visit their website and choose some seats. You'll need a confirmation number to access your flights. This will also let you see exactly what aircraft you'll be on. Also, our tickets are cheaper in the States as opposed to what you pay in the UK because that is what the market will sustain. I'm not sure about flying out of the UK, but from LAX I can to BKK on 12-14 carriers. All those carriers equates to seats that need to be sold. More seats usually means lower prices. Al
