  1. Growler, On my last trip I booked the Grand Jomtien Palace, as I had seen it before when I was staying at the Welcome Jomtien, it is just about as far down but it is right on the beach. The buildings are in the shape of an upside T so the only place you can really see the beach is form the rooms right in front, so I booked a delux room ( I always book a double, so thats may be why I have never had a joiner charge) on a high floor at the front. Well thats what I got. The only problem was that they were 2 beds and I had requested 1 King or Queen bed not 2 twins, the hotel staff then informed me that these rooms in the front only come with 2 beds, but they would put them together for me. Well after one night thats when I moved to Jomtien Thani. Jomtien Thani has cable TV but not the biggest selection of channels, they do however have a nice sauna, so now the TG's know what I fell like everyday, lol. Some of there reactions in the sauna are priceless. Gammon
  2. Growler, I stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks about a year ago (thought I did a review), no joiner fee when I stayed there, but it is kind of far down Jomtien beach. Paid 1000B per night breakfast incl, nice hotel. Last time I stayed at Jomtien Thani newer hotel fairly nice also but much better location, price about the same. I saw the Jomtien Boathouse being built, great location and looked nice, that where I think I will stay on my return. Gammon
  3. I stayed at the Welcome Jomtien for 2 weeks, alittle far down the main beach road, but nice hotel with guests no prob. Gammon
  4. Soi 7 Yes those are good seats, I have sat in them before, but always ask at check-in to get the exit asile bulkhead seat, the airline cannot reserve them ahead of time as they must make sure you meet FAA standards to sit in these seats. Cathay is a great airline with ind. monitors for each seat on my last filght and alot of programming. Gammon
  5. I always stay in Jomtien and have always been able to get a BB at anytime, alought not quite as previlent late at night as during the day. If you start at the corner of second rd. and so. pattaya you can hire one as pete says from 50-100B, or just start walking towards Jomtien and one will be by within 5 minutes for the standard fare of 10B Gammon
  6. Hi all, I will be arriving in Bkk Oct. 5th @10:30am, if anyone else is arriving near that time and wants to share a Thai limo ride down to Pattaya just let me know. See you all @FLB. Gammon
  7. Hub, Booked with the CP web-site and it was full AA miles, also very nice as you can pick your seat on-line so I got lucky and hve the first row of coach on the asile so pleny of leg room, good luck with what you need. Gammon
  8. I just got my ticket on Cathay Pacific from LAX for $598.00 and included FF miles plus a 5000 mile bonus. I called Angel Travel at the reccomendation of people on this board and they quoted a higher price without FF miles, at that time I was also considerating EVA and the price from them was more than from the EVA web site, so if you like to work with them I'm sure they are helpful, but if you want to look around you can sometimes a better price. 11. As far as BB fare from Jomtien to Pattaya, I always par 10B if I am going to South Pattaya, if I am going further like to Soi 7 for breakfast I pay 20B. Also note if you are going just a short distance like from walking street to Royal garden plaza I pay 5B. To catch a BB back to Jomtien just start walking down second road from anywhere past south Pattaya road & one will be by within seconds or if you are on beach road just point toward second road then back right towards Jomtien and the BB driver will either shake his head yes or no, once or twice after this more people hopped in to go back the other way so when he got to the corner of second rd & s. Pattaya just hop out and pay 5B and catch another one from there. Gammon
  12. Archie is right KRBar near the corner that starts Jomtien Beach road is byfar the best in Jomtien. Gammon
  13. Hi all, I wanted to take my TG to see horse racing in Thailand, I found a site that says there are 2 tracks in Bangkok which each run every other Sunday. Are these the only tracks in Thailand and I tried to look-up a website or information for these tracks (Royal Turf Club of Thailand & Royal Bangkok Sports Club) but I have not been able to find a schedule to see which one is running on which Sunday. Thanks for any help, Gammon
  14. Clark, Don't worry about it at all, and you will soon not be alone if you don't want to. I came alone on my first trip almost 3 years ago (which was my first trip out of the country except for Mexico), first day I was there was riding a Baht Bus and started bullshitting with an Aussie guy who just happened to be in that bus and we hung out with each other and various TG's for the next week until he left, sometime during that time we also met another couple guys in FLB who I would also hang out with (one from England and one from Florida). The guy from Florida who is also a board member and I have made 2 subsequent trips back to Pattaya at the same time as each other and each time we meet some great new guys as well, so don't worry about it and just go have fun, I'm sure some guys will be there to kind of show you "the ropes" at first. Not to mention the great TG's you will meet :) Gammon
