Thanks,

You can get a 50 hour (or so) package from all the ISP's - here is a list of some of the ISP's:

you have to ask the hotel though if they do allow you to dial up without disconnecting the call after 10 minutes or so (very often the case) - the dial up charge is 3 Baht per connection (no time limit - but make sure you dial the local access number of the ISP)

you can get these packages at all the computer shops.

Good info from cyber....I use Lox Info which I can buy at 7/11. I learned a good tip here. put a , after the 9 for an outside line as some hotel switch boards do think as fast as computers!

to explain the "," - it tells the modem to wait a second before going on with dialing the number, depending on the phone system you could also use ,, or ,,, which would mean 2 or 3 seconds and so on :nod

Some hotels like pattaya centre hotel use old switchboards and phones are all hard wired. What ever i tried to do ever time i dialed out, a operater would interup the call.

Best place for using internet via hotel with prepay card was residence gardens.

Very helpful stuff guys.

If you're looking for a hotel, watch for the DD telephone they speak of. I suppose it's do-able with a switchboard system, but why bother going thought the headache? There are so many good newer and renovated hotels with DD that if it's important to you to have in-the-room access it's not that hard to find. One of the best things about Pattaya (after the beautiful ladies!) is the wealth of newer hotels at reasonable prices.

The Sandy Spring Hotel can set you up with a dial up connection, they sell the prepaid package at the front desk and will assist you to set it up in your room.

Here is a post from another member that may help you.

Hello Rob,

Just backing up what what Big Mike said. I was in the Sandy Springs just over a week ago. I got a 30 hour Loxinfo package for around 350 baht from the front desk. It came with all instructions on how to set it up. Dont forget to put in the 9, to get an outside line. They charged 8 baht per call but there was no time limits. I had a few dropouts but it was not too bad. The package is good for 12 months.

I would take a 4-5 metre phone cable as the phone outlet is on the opposite side of the room to the rooms desk.

The hotel rooms are good and the location is hard to beat.

Bigmike.

When I visited Bella Villa Prima on soi 4 in beginning of Aug., the hotel provides a radio LAN internet with free of charge as it was a test running period of the radio LAN system they installed. I don't know how long is the test-run period lasts.

I bought a 12hours + (2 hours for beginning OR 4 hours for refil) loxfinfo card by 160 Bht at the net cafe in Big C 2nd floor. The hotel (Sun Shine Vista) I stayed charges 10.7 Bht for one connection that disconnects at 30 minutes. I bought 2 Loxinfo cards, and I connected 30 minutes every time, so my connection is 14hours(28 halh hours)*2 cards=56 connections, So the telephone bill should be around 600 Bht, but it was nearly 900 Bht. Be careful, connection to the Loxinfo is failed but still you must pay phone bill.
