I'm planning my third trip to Pattaya, leaving in a few weeks time. This time, I was planning to bring my laptop with me. Anybody who has done this, when you leave the hotel room, how do you see to it that the laptop is still there when you come back, so to speak ? I wasn't planning to stay in any of the 5 star hotels, rather something like say Sabai Lodge or Thai Garden.

Anybody who has faced this problem ? I'd be really grateful for some advice. (Chain the latop to the radiator or something ? )

Put in your big suitcase and lock it. That what I did when I brought a lap top with me. BG never knew I had one.

Stayed with my Laptop in a lot of Pattaya Hotels, including RG, Sabai Inn, Sunshine, Flipper and a few more.

Never had problems with theft. Maybe I was lucky? Never heard of other guests having problems either.

Of course, a little bit of consideration on your guest's possible habits might be wise. (More on that if needed in the Members forum ....)

Other than that, a lot of Hotels here seem to have the nasty habit of cutting off the Phone line after 10 or 20 Minutes use.

A positive exception is the Residence Garden. Not only do they have a separate phone plug for the Laptop, they also have a very good switchboard system, allowing you to connect real fast. And they never cut the phone off, wether I was online for 20 Minutes or 3 hours.

What ISP serves Pattaya? My ISP - highstream, doesn't have overseas numbers so I guess I would have to sign up for some kind of 'temporary' service to be able to connect or switch to an ISP with service in Thailand.

Easy to find local internet package at 7-11 and many other places.

You can buy pre-paid internet access cards in lots of shops in Pattaya and Thailand. You get a username, a password and numbers for various areas.

Expect to pay around 12 - 15 Baht an hour service.

I can recommend Loxinfo Cards, as they have dedicated numbers for most cities in thailand. A lot of the others just use the general Internet Number 1222, which is (theoretically) accessable from every land line in Thailand for the cost of a local call (3 Baht, plus surcharges at Hotels, no matter how long the call takes), but is busy more often than not.

Also, beware of some very cheap cards with information only in Thai language. These might be limited to access Sites in Thailand only, so probably of no use to you at all!

You can still access your Email account with these connections, only sending mail might be a bit tricky, depending on your ISP's settings and policy.
