Chang Mai is quite easy to get around, I was there a few years ago with my TG.

We stayed at the Lotus Pang Suan Kaew it was about 10 minutes by taxi to the centre of the city. It was next door to a 6 story shopping mall. The hotel ran a shuttle bus each night to the Bazaar. If it isn't any use, I always use http://www.hoteltravel.com

I haven't found anybody cheaper. I hope this helps.

I recommend the Pornping in Chiang Mai. Will stay there in October for 900/night. Very good hotel, in the basement they locate the Bubbles disco known for an enourmous of freelancers being there every night. You can also find massage girl which did not get an overnight job so far. More info here.

I stayed at the Royal princess hotel. About 2000 baht a night with breakfast and all taxes throught directrooms.com. Right in the heart of the city. At night you walk out the front doors right inot the center of the night market. Good property good breakfast. girl friendly :o :D
