Last times I stayed in pattaya i always went to Beach View hotel. Always very much to my comfort. I go to Pattaya in november, wanted to book te hotel, but got the notice that the Beach view was in "major renovation". anybody know what they are doing? You think there will be some noice from the renovations when staying in the markland hotel next to het beach view?

thanx

I've stayed in both hotels so I know them and you are making good choices. I hope the rooms are all being rejuvenated and upgraded in the Beach View renovations. If they are I might stay there again. I doubt that reovation means heavy construction so I think noise affecting your stay at the Markland is unlikely. If you are concerned why not just ask for a room facing north in the Markland and you'll be on the other side of the building and not have any noise.

Does anyone on the board know the details of the Beach View construction? Is the beauty shop open during the work? I like going there for a shave and want to go for my first shave of the trip four weeks from today.

I made enquiries with the Beach View about 2 months ago about staying in Dec 2004/Jan. 2005.

It seems that the hotel is under going some refurbishment and a change in ownership, so things were cloudy. They did offer alternative accommodation at the Cozy Hotel at the same room rate that was never quoted in the first place. :D

However. common sense has prevailed and we are staying at our usual haunt the Areca Lodge on Soi Dianna.

No need to look anywhere else really. Cant think as to why I tried elsewhere in the first place.

Difficult to tell.

There are five of us going to the Areca at different dates during Dec. 2004 leaving Jan. 2005.

The standard room rate covering the time we will be there from Dec. 1st. 2004 - Jan. 15th 2005 is 1380 baht per night.

However there is a supplementary charge of 500 baht per night from Dec. 24 to Jan 1st all nights inclusive. :crying

Plus a 1500 baht charge for a Gala dinner on New Years Eve. ch)

When I heard about this we looked for some cheaper hotels with comparable facilities. Was a complete waste of time as most have not even replied. :P

Wonder how good they would be at holding a room reservation during what is the

busiest time of year. ch)

Have been to Pattaya 3 times and stayed at the Areca each time and even with the supplement it is good value for money.

Areca Lodge

Up to you. :D

Thanks for your reply. Areca Lodge looks fine indeed, ... btw whats the distance between the lodge and second road. 5 minutes walk or 10?

By the way, I'm booking my trip for november and have a discussion with my mate about the beds we should order in the rooms. I want what we call in Holland a "twopersonbed" (a bed that big enough for two :nod , ... so not two seperate beds. I hate the gap in between the two beds). What you call that in English? Twin bed or Double bed?

Thanx

The walk to second road from the Areca is about 3 minutes, and to Beach Road another 5.

Top_Cat and friends take a LOT longer as they often get hauled in to the beer bars along Soi Diana ! LOL

I am also a BIG fan of the Areca Lodge, and am leaving tomorrow for what will be my 7th stay there.

As for beds, a Double Room gets 1 bed, and a Twin Room 2 beds, and this is how they are described on the website.

If you want to book with requests other than those offered on the Reservations page, just e-mail the hotel, they are very helpful.

Hope this has been useful information !
