Hi

Wondered how widely Visa Electron cards are accepted in Thailand both at ATM's and for making purchases at shops/travel agents ?

Many thanks

electron cards are accepted all over Thailand in atm machines i wouldn't advise using them at shops or hotels if they are accepted to easy for fraud.

On my last trip to Pattaya, I used my Merwest Visa Check Card for ATM withdrawals and my Meriwest Visa Card to pay for my Hotel Bill at Sabai-Lodge. In both cases I was not charged any type of Tranaction Fee or Service Fee from the Thai Banks, Hotel or from my own Bank. I am still watching my statements for any unusual activity.

Any time I go overseas, I contact my Bank and let them know that I will be out of the country on vacation and will be using my cards. By doing this I avoid any problems of my card not being accepted when I use it.

UK based, Hong Kong based, Citibank (Amex, Mastercard, Diners, Visa, JCB) and most other cards I use welcome most everywhere you'd expect. Bangkok Bank visa OK.

Visa electron is not a credit card and as such, not subject to the 1974 Consumer Credit Act (in the UK). No guarantees I suspect and less protection. I'd use a credit card but electron should be OK for cash. I'd check the limit though as it may be lower than you think / need.

I have a Visa Electron card for my account with the Bangkok Bank on Second Road. No problems with it either in Thailand or England.
