Folks,

What does a newbie need to know about e-tickets. My ticket purchases have always been through an agent who provided me with tickets well before my flight.

My guess is that the usual tickets will not be sent to my home address. Do I get email that I need to print out and take to the airport? Can I confirm my reservations? What informs me that my e-tickets are being properly processed?

BTW ANA offers a credit card with an annual fee that accumulates mileage at a rate of a mile per U.S. dollar charged. The past year ANA had several promotions that enabled me to pick up about 20,000 free miles. These promotions have been ad hoc but indicate a marketing policy that may continue.

Travelocity is showing an ANA flight from Dulles (IAD), Virginia to Bangkok for $854 that is attractive. My e-ticket jitters make me hesitate.

Papa..

You should have gotten an E-Mail confirmation on the purchase of your tickets {if bought over the internet}. If you bought them over an 1-800 phone #, you will recieve something in the mail

Bring that copy to the airport and present it to the agent at the ticket counter. Please have the CC you used to purchase these, as you may be asked for that to verify the purchase. You could also keep the CC bill showing the purchase {to ease your jitters}

This is a cost saving measure by the airlines and really is so much easier. They will issue you boarding passes at the ticket counter before you leave {on the day of departure}. Then you will have to go through the same process on your return trip back home.

You can have all your seats assigned before you depart and once you have some type of written comfirmation, you are set for your trip. I just did it for my buddy and had confirmation with 60 seconds of the purchase via an E-Mail. I then just gave him a copy of that E-Mail.

After one trip, you will be an E-Ticket pro and you will no longer have those "jitters"

Greg,

Thanks for the information.

This is what ANA posts on their home page:

"We have the perfect tool for busy travelers!

You may now register your e-mail address and we will e-mail the following information to you when you make a reservation directly with ANA:

1. Itinerary Information

Your itinerary will be sent to your registered e-mail address.

2. Notice of Waitlist Clearance

E-mail will be sent to you when seats are confirmed from a waitlist.

3.E-mail with e-Ticket Itinerary Receipt

Your e-Ticket Itinerary Receipt will be e-mailed to you in PDF file.

To take advantage of the service, your reservation including flight awards must be made by calling the ANA Contact Center and registering your e-mail address."

But I am not making a "reservation directly with ANA." If I complete the transaction, it will be with Travelocity. Would not ANA be selling the same seat at the posted rate? My next action will be a search of the ANA homepage where I expect to find (approximately?) the same rate.

I e-ticket all my flights and just e-ticketed my last trip with EVA Air and didn't have any real problems. If you buy off the net, print the page that usually says "Print This For Your Records". It should have your ticket number on there somewhere. You should also get an email to the addy you listed that will have all that info plus intinerary and seats, if selected. Show up at the airport with the e-ticket and credit card and you're good to go. The only problems I had was both times at TPE. I checked in at LAX and BKK. Normally, with a paper ticket, they'll staple the coupon to the boarding pass. Well, with an e-ticket, they couldn't do it so I got held up while they verified my e-ticket in their computer. Only took another 30 seconds each time, so keep your e-ticket handy just in case.

You will love the e-tickets. In fact on my last two trips with EVA they did not even want to see the computer printout information - just needed your passport and the credit card used to purchase the ticket - and you only needed the credit card at the first leg check-in for the return trip home I just showed my passport.

No paper ticket to lose or fumble with - for safety I forward a copy of the flights email confirmation to my travel email account - ready to access anywhere anytime. 2guns
