Over a month to go, and I'm already heartily sick of having "Christmas" rammed down my throat. This year, I went into a department store here in the UK in the third week of September, and they had a huge banner saying "IT'S CHRISTMAS!!!"

Don't get me wrong, I quite like Christmas itself, I just resent the way it's been spoiled by such stupidity and blatant greed. Is it the same in the US?

Don't know about the USA, but around here (Croatia, Austria,...) it started on the November 2nd. :nod B)

Yes, sad to say, it's as bad or even worse in the US. Christmas decorations have been for sale in stores since October -- early October. The holiday has become little more than a chance for retailers and manufacturers to get one last boost to the bottom line before their fiscal year ends.

Did the pagans in early England have this problem? Runes needed for the winter solstice being thrown or carved just after the harvest, perhaps?

The best way for me to get through the holidays is to have a trip already booked. Now the holidays can't come fast enough!!!!!

Come on Santa, get those fucking reindeer hitched to the sled!!! Rgds, Jimmy

And the Bella Villa Hotel on Soi 4 in Pattaya has had a huge decorated Christmas tree in the lobby since about the middle of October. Haven't heard Christmas music in the stores yet...thank heavens.

I have always admired the Scotsman who went outside in early December, fired a few shots in the air, then came back in and told the kids Santa had committed suicide. What a nice man. :P

I would prefer if Christmas decorations go up no earlier than the day after Thanksgiving.

The over-comercialization of Christmas bothers me especially diamond commericals which imply that giving stupid expensive jewelry is a sign of love.
