I'm shooting for early March... does anybody know when would be the best time to book? I've gone to Amsterdam frequently around the same time of year, and the best time to book is usually late October.

I'm willing to fly out of JFK, Newark, Philly, BWI, National, or Dulles... the best fare I can find right now is 838 (all in) from JFK. I've got an e-cert from Northwest, so I could book that one for 738.

Should I jump on it, or do fares tend to go down between now and then?

I am going in late Feb, or early March. I am going to wait until the prices drop to more reasonable prices. Right now its high season and you will lock onto a high price flight.

I am going to wait until Feb to start looking.

I booked my February trip today. I probably overpaid @ $1100.00 from Indianapolis. By far the most that I’ve paid but I wanted to be sure I got the bulkhead and exit row seats that I wanted. For what it is worth, from past experience I have purchase my February 03 and February 04 tickets in early January of each year. I paid less than $800.00 for each of the trips. With current the insane fuel costs, who knows what will happen in the next couple of months.

Good luck on your flight search and hopefully our paths will cross in February.

Prices on UA out of Philly drop after 15 January. Cost of fuel is insane. I have my doubts that price will drop to what I paid last January. I paid around $740.

I usually wait until February to book my April/May trip. Usually pay between $700-900 on UA out of Minneapolis but it's at $1150 right now! With both UA and NW cutting routes to fill-up their planes and the crazy fuel prices, I might have to consider another option this spring. Chicago is 300 mles away and my son lives in Minneapolis now so it makes it AWFULLY EASY flying out of there.

I think the days of the $600 tickets at the height of the SARS scare are well past.

I'll wait until late winter and see what develops.

someone once posted that you get the best airfare right AFTER you have booked your flight

I saw that, and PM my friend Upena, this was in September.

I would of never got the date I wanted to fly, but the price was dirt cheap from Hawaii.

The cheapest month to book is Sept/mid month

one huge problem for the next 90 days with NW is they leased the A330 airbus instead of the 747-400s in tokoyo

so the number of seats are almost cut in half

i have always taken 19-20 from msp-nrt and 27(1)-28(2) from nrt-bkk

no problem getting 19-20 as it's still 747 but the 27-28 is A330 so they are over booked and put you on UA or Thai so the price skyrockets

hopefully they will go back to 747-400 after this lease is up

it helps to logde complaits

my ex is vp assitant to ops-asia for NW and said the complaints have been many because there is vertualy no awards flights avaliable in asia anymore because of the reduced seats.

the fatass carhops are especially pissed because of reduce numbers per flight.

i think it takes about 11 to crew a 747

and an A330 is about 5-6

oh

go philly!!!

$967.50 is the best i've seen on 19-27-28-20 so far

i'm still holding out

I just returned to the States (for the Christmas bullshit) and rode the Airbus for the first time. Not impressed. It flies slower and carries 100 few passengers than the 747. And with fewer attendants the service wasn't great. One neat thing, though, is the seat-back TV's. You had a choice of several movies, and could watch them when you wanted. The system also offers games. Helps the time pass. A good book is still the best.

Are the Airbuses just on a 90 day lease? Strange they would schedule a smaller and slower plane during high season. I guess it uses less fuel....?

Looks like prices are FINALLY starting to come down from the mid-South for March departures... $780 ballpark for DFW and IAH on AA/EVA, flight times are a bit dodgy, but it beats paying the $1000+ that it has been!
