Well finally got my flight to los with emirates and when I was sorting out travel insurance the guy on the fone was an aussie(for all his sins) and he started to tell me how he uses Dubai when he visits aus and i said i hav a 3hr stop there and he was telling me there is a lounge for westerners and to look for the girls in yellow jackets and they take u to a lounge with comfy chairs and showers and unlimited food and drink , all for $20 us...this sounds great to me as i hav 5 hr wait on return trip, has anyone used this lounge? Im a newbie and will be travelling solo cheers in advance for any replys..Pb

Hi - I have travelled to Bkk via Dubai on a number of occasions, but have never heard of this lounge. All my trips have been in economy so I have not had access to any of the numerous lounges at this airport.

I would say that Dubai is a very comfortable airport to wait for your connecting flight. There are several areas where you can find a reclining seat and have a snooze (I've always set my alarm to make sure I do not miss my flight). To buy drinks and meals etc you need to buy Dhirans, the currency of the Emirates, but you can buy small amounts quite cheaply.

A 3 hour wait is not really a problem - it often takes half an hour to clear security and then you have to be at your departure gate before time. There is a large duty free area to visit, but I never have seen any outstanding bargains there.

However with a 5 hour wait the extra comfort of a lounge at $20 would be well worth it. Let me know if you discover how to penetrate this sanctum.

A good tip whilst waiting at the gate for the Bangkok flight would be to chat to other male travellers - I often find someone to share a taxi to Pattaya and on two occasions found a friend.

Hope you have a good time - looks like my next visit will be in March.
