I will be taking my first trip to Pattaya mid February - Yay!

Should I be looking for a hotel 'right in the centre of the action' or is it OK to get one on the edge?

Traditionally, when I dont go for the centre of a place, I am dissapointed  but maybe in Pattaya, there is enough going on all over the place for this not to be an issue?

Anyone care to name a handful of fave hotels in the 500-800 baht range?

Thanks guys

..Clive

First trip to Pattaya I stayed on Soi 8 at Eastinny, but now I try and stay at one of the Flippers on Soi 7 and 8. I recommend the Flippers, try their website they

usually have good deals. And it is a great location with all the beer bars and

a short baht bus trip to walking st.

The main nite life area is compact like a rectangle about 2.5 miles long 1 mile wide if that much and you can drive around the rectangle in about 25-30 minutes with no traffic. I would stay anywhere in the rectangle.

I like the following cheap good hotels. www.skytoppattaya.com www.flippergroup.com www.sabaiinn.com many others in town. Enjoy.

It seems like just about all hotels from soi 1 to the beginning of Walking Street are well positioned in Pattaya (to answer your initial question), in that there are venues, and attractions from from one end of that area to the other. Of couse they all do not fall into the 500-800 Baht range as you requested.

For example, the food court at the TOPS Supermarket at Central Pattaya and 2nd road provides some excellent eye candy, along with potential for major hook-ups with TGs, and let's not forget the very good Thai food there. Of course there are a number of good eateries at the other end of town also, the Big C Center is an example of one location.

The Flippers seem to be quite popular hotels, and you might want to check out the SkyTop Hotel at about 500 baht I believe. Enjoy!

If you're on or in the baht bus Beach Road/2nd Road circle it doesn't really matter about location from a distance point of view as the action won't be more than a few minutes ride away wherever you are.

How long are you staying. Although many people will recommend that you stay within the Beach Rd/2nd Rd rectangle, baht busses routinely run up and down Soi Buakaow, North Pattay Rd, Centeral Pattaya Rd and South Pattaya Rd and can get you to your destination only a few minutes more and at the same cost or 10 baht more. The cost savings of the hotels just off these roads will more than pay for this extra 10 baht.

With the current Baht Bus system, it really doesn't matter where you stay in Pattaya. If you've been 3 or 4 times, you have a knowledge of the layout and you're looking for a place that meets your needs. I'm more of a Soi 6 man {QV}, but others don't like to go that far up from the action.

It's all a matter of personal choice...

Thanks guys for all the good ideas!

It was a toss-up :leaving between SkyTop and the Roof Garden - Thinking about too many only gets me confused :)

I saw some pictures of inside the SkyTop and it is decorated a bit like a caravan :crying - Good location though..

I think the Roof Garden wins

Emil - I am staying for about a week, from about the 9th.

I saw some good reviews of the Roof Garden in the reviews section - Its a few years out of date, back in the days when people posted reviews :) Maybe I need to do an update on the place!

The reason I asked is because some places offer up to 2/3rds off if your staying for a month or more. Since your only staying for a week I would suggest that you pay a few baht more and stay right in the middle of the action like the soi 7/8 area. Unless you enjoy walking, what you save on the cost of a room will cost you on baht bus rides.

clive,

I've literaly just returned from the Flipper lodge and enjoyed it just as much as my first visit there in 1992. Its right in the middle of the action, staff are friendly and helpful and the price varies between 700 to 1000 baht a night according to season.
