Hello, if i mispell a word it is because i've been drinking all day and night.

 

Great game, i had 10 tickets total going.

 

I LOST: When i bet the Patriots in the 1st (- 1/2) and 2nd -(-3) and 3rd (-1/2) quarters, i didn't bet much but i still lost.

 

I WON: when i had the Patriots at 3-1 (three different tickets) to win the Superbowl, that was my big bet, i had the tickets for about 3 months. I had the AFC at -1 in 2 different tickets and hit them, very nice. A few days ago I bet the Eagles at +7 (to hedge the bet), if i lost that bet i would of been happy because my money was on the Patriots to just win but the Eagles lost by only 3 points so it worked out good.

 

I was going to bet the Eagles to have the lead in the game once at +160 ($100 wins $160) but the line was too long at the sportsbook, vegas is very busy this week.

 

Overall it was a very good day for me. I've always said "it is better to be LUCKY than good" anyday of the week. PUT THAT ON MY TOMBSTONE.

 

BAD NEWS for you anti Patriots fans, the Pats are currently under salarycap.

 

The money i won today paid for alot of barfines and almost paid for my next plane ticket.

BTW, some of my tickets don't say "Superbowl," they say "NFC-AFC championshp game" just like there wern't any Superbowl parties, but there were "big day parties". The NFL commisioner is a fucking idiot.

Well Chaps, I told myself I will watch this game, but after 15 minutes, I could not take anymore. I was counting the seconds of play, it was mostly 7-11 seconds action, then 30-40 seconds of stoppage.

 

How many men are there in a team ?

Who counts them on and off the field ?

It seemed as if the whole side is replaced after a shortwhile, they just wander on and off.

 

Watching our football, must make you feel out of breath after 30 minutes of end to end stuff.

 

I liked the flyover and all the razamataz. But sorry, it doesn't do it for me. It seems a long winded process to get a result. A bit like elections I suppose.

Very nice. What time was the game on there? 630am? For my halftime i almost went to a local casino to bet the second half but never made it, good thing I was drinking all day and night. Instead i called my brother in NY. Yes your halftime was alot nicer than mine. Have a ball in LOS, sounds like you are.

The game is 60 minutes in a game which is about 3 hours on TV, maybe 4 hours for the Superbowl, but actual play is very little, especially the Superbowl.

 

There is 11 players on the field from each team at a time, the referee counts them, if they have too many there is a 5 yard penalty. If there is too little it is because they made a mistake. Actually there was a High School football team last year that played with 9 players on defense, in the off season 2 defensive players died (drowned) and out of respect for the players, they only played with 9 players, they ended the season undefeated and champs, it is a great story and made it on ESPN.

 

American football or European football makes me look tired just watching them.

O.K, there are 11 players on the field, but how many are available to play ? In our Football, we have about 6 players as sub's, but only 3 allowed on in the 90 mins of play.

You seem to have at least 3 teams at each game on each side.

I think the number is 65 for NFL and 89 for college, not 100% sure of the exact number. The NCAA regulates how many scholarships a college can give out for football and how many can suit up for the game. There is a first and second team and of course a third team which i was on which i called "scrub club".

 

The coaches can substitute players between plays, sometimes the offense will hurry to the line of scrimage before the defense can substitute players and force them to use one of their timeouts.

 

I like College football better but I love the Superbowl, it means my next trip to LOS is not far ahead. BTW I usually won't watch a game unless i have a wager on it.

I think American football has so many players because of injuries and specialization. Every play, every player has a very specific job. Some plays are designed with specific players in mind so they come on and off. I think there are a lot of rookies on the rosters as well that are not playing too much but learning. It's a very complex game in the end.

 

I know some people have difficulty watching the game because it seems slow. But the beauty is in watching the play execution. It's a very strategic game.

 

BTW, don't judge American football on the Superbowl. It sucks. It's all commercialism. I was disgusted when after the Ray Charles tribute they annouced that the soundtrack to the movie Ray was on the charts and for sale. I bet they had vendors walking around the park yelling; 'HOTDOGS, BEER, RAY CHARLES CD'S!!!' Watch any game during the regular season to see a real American football game.

I believe the pros have 45 players who are designated active before each game with another 5 or 6 who are inactive. The game has become so specialized that certain players only play based on the yards needed for a first down. The colleges usually vary as many will have more players available for home games than when they travel due to costs. That is one reason to stay away from some of the large points spreads if the favorite is playing at home because they will put in the 4th or 5th string. I've watch a little of the European football game and true they don't stop to huddle up and the game is constant motion but from the little that I saw when the ball is near one end of the field those players near the ball are constantlly moving but the guys away from the ball are not going full speed.

Our Football, ( the real one) does not allow any off-ball contact, by players on opposite sides, so running full speed at each other is not part of the game. The fact you are on the pitch for pretty well 90+ minutes, would make it impossible to go full speed all the time. There is more emphasis on field positioning, by both attack and defence. Players, are either Defenders, Midfield or Strikers. They are expected to be in the right place when needed, but it is not unusual for them to swap from one to the other during the game. Defendrs are usually taller than attackers, so when a Free Kick or any advantage around the oppositions goal is given, the taller defenders will come up field to attack the goal, being able to get higher than others, they can score by heading the ball into goal.

 

Despite all this flexibility, they are still paid too much money, for what they do.

I understand a little of your game and my comment was intended to point out that your game doesn't have all your players going full speed the entire game. It has been stated that American football players aren't as well conditioned as yours because the American game has many minutes where there isn't any action. As I was trying to point out and you conferred, your game has 90 minutes of action, but not everyone is going full speed the entire game. If your team is on attack your defenders back by your goal are hardly moving.

I'd like to add that one game is more continuous activity while the other emphasizes short power bursts, a little like the marathon vs. 100 metre dash.

No pro soccer or rugby players with guts hanging over the belt though.

Johnny K...the offensive/defensive lineman position is specialized. Bulk is a necessary ingredient, without it you lose effectiveness. Even the most lean OL/DL will weigh more than 280 lbs. Just the way it is. The average line man is about 2 meters tall and weighs in excess of 300 pounds. Also, there are lineman with moblity, but when then "pull" on a sweep they run about 20 to 25 yards max. The quickest linemen in the league can run 40 yards in 4.50 seconds. Picture that coming at you wearing 20 pounds of equipment and I think you get the picture. They don't need to run any more than that, so they create the build that maximizes strength and mobility.

 

P.S. They're smart, too. It's a position that requires as much brains as brawn; requires lots of teamwork.

They are two totally different games, with the same name. I just prefer our version. I can't even see ,who has the ball in your game. When I do see it, play stops again !

Your 100% correct there. Each play the offensive coordinator is sending in a play that he believes will work best against the defense. The defensive coordinator at the same time is trying to second guess what the offense will run and replacing players who can best stop that play.
