Tom is correct, it is the SAS lounge, 2 levels, free internet, quite a nice lounge with seperate TV room. Food is OK but nothing special, plenty of free drinks, just help yourself :cussing

I hope to get in there tonight if possible, I paid £18 last time but worth it if you have over 2 hours to kill.

EVA lounge in Bangkok is not worth a wank unlike the new Thai lounge which is very nice.

The only food I've seen in the London Lounge is bits of snacks and stuff like that so I wouldn't go in there thinking you'll get a feed up.

The EVA longe is fine, I used it in November. Couldn't fault it. :D

Will check for you next week. The lounge at LHR is SAS and is very nice. :D

Thanks everone .... I was in the SAS london lounge last year ... and Roland is right it does not come close to the Thai lounge in Bangkok. I've never been with Eva before but the price of £1700 return first class,(all the times i've looked before it's been 3000 to 4000). i'm giving it a go.

But i did hope it was not the SAS London lounge .... don't get me wrong it is a nice lounge but no food or no hot food does let it down

Roland, I am pleased you have such good taste! B)

I flew in October with Emirates in First and whilst I didn't rate the airline that highly, the lounge at Dubai was superb. Food drink etc and nice bedrooms etc. The lounge in Bangkok was the Thai airways one (which I thought was ok but not excellent) and the one in LHR at the time was United airlines, which was truly the most vile lounge I have ever been in.

EVA first is very nice, small cabin in front of Business with good food, fine wine and attentive personal service, the lounge at BKK was not as good as Emirates though.

When I use a lounge, and indeed an airline for that matter, my choice is dedicated purely by comfort of the seat, and I prefer night time flights.

Having tried all the major airlines I had settled on KLM for comfort, price and convenience. I live in the UK and you can connect to AMS from any UK regional airport and use Amsterdam as the hub. However KLM have petty lousy lounges and a very poor selection of food. Surprisingly, I prefer the Louis Tavern Lounge at BKK to any of there lounges at Schipol. This is because the seats are comfy and the bar close by. I don't work so I couldn't give a fig about internet access or bedrooms or quiet areas etc, I just want somewhere comfy to plant my arse.

Sadly, KLM have put there prices up, and after taking a few of my mates to Manila from Bristol in Business and having a very poor experience I decided to stop flying with them.

I currently have BA, Quantas, Thai and Cathay Pacific on trial; all of which seem pretty good. This thursday or friday I will be trying Lufthansa from LHR via Munich in Business featuring there new Business class product. I will let you know what I think!

Roland,

You been on the waccy baccy again?

Eva business class is as good or better than BA/Qantas first class, except for the flat beds!

Eva first class is heaven in the air and £1,700 is a damned good price, mind you business is usually around £950 and so good I would not pay the extra for first but thats just me.

SAS lounge at Heathrow is OK. Cold snack type food, bread rolls, cheese, ham that sort of thing, but free booze and internet access.

Eva Evergeen Deluxe lounge in Bangkok is pretty dire but again free booze and internet access (one computer tucked round the corner).

Enjoy!

EVA business class service is top hole but the seats spoil it and it's the same with the first class service but again the seats aren't comparable to BA etc.

For £1700 I'd rather fly EVA deluxe use the miles to upgrade to Biz and save the £1100 to pay for some LOS fun :P

Interseting comments about EVA. I really like them as airlines go, and would reccomend them to anyone.

Just a point on the business and first class seats.

I understand that EVA have purchased a quantity of new long haul aircraft and they will use them from LHR to BKK at some time in the fairly near future. The new aircraft have been fitted with there upgraded business class product

Its called Premium Laurel Class

Its here- check out the interactive demo.

Also for those of you who may not be aware of it-check out the fantastic value for money in EVA Evergreen Deluxe (premium economy)

its here- Also an interactive demo.

Hmmm. Methinks those that are classing EVA first class as being of a high standard, probably are speaking with forked tongue about having flown First Class with anyone ! It is relatively cheap and that is about it. Buisness class on "most" majors are better than EVA First class (747s). EVA evergreen deluxe is best all round for price/product, but all other classes are inferior products.

fatboyfat,

Got to agree with you re EVA first class. I flew with them last year and the only real positive thing that can be said is that it is spacious and I couldn't see a huge amount of difference between biz class and Evergreen Deluxe. Anybody considering going biz class or above with EVA at the moment would be best advised to put their cash and miles to one side and use them to upgrade when the 777s come online later this year.

FBF,

Flew business class around the world with most airlines and first class BA in and out of Africa for 10 years during my time working for oil companies.

Reason we flew first class BA was because we were going regularly so we bought a return business class ticket (typically UK£2,500) from London then cashed in the return leg and bought return first class tickets locally (typically US$2,000) from then on. All airlines do it but BA's differential pricing is outrageous.

The planes for most airlines are pretty much the same, it is the service that counts for me.

On BA for example first class you have some fat middle aged bitch who'se been with the airline since BOAC days and clearly regards you as self loading freight. I will admit the flat beds are good and they are long enough but they are not very wide. Food and drink is pretty much the same on all airlines.

If you want total could not give a toss screw you service try the BA London/Aberdeen shuttle. £300 return (enjoy the chicken sandwich and cup of tea). No competition you see!

I would rather be surrounded by happy smiling people dishing out drinks and service that the sour faced cows on BA or WORSE American Airlines, any day.

In terms of value on Eva:

Evergreen deluxe at circa £600 best deal in the air.

Business at circa £1,000 worth the extra for a treat occasionally.

First at circa £2,000 not worth the extra over Business for only minimally better service/seats.

If you wish to pay £2,000 for BA World Traveller Plus then that is your business.

I flew Ba and Eva business class long haul within 2 months of each other quite recently. The Ba seat was more modern and a flat bed ,but the EVA seat was wider, which is probably an important consideration for some of us on this board.

The service was much better on EVA and the ticket was half the cost for a slightly longer journey.

EVA's first class seats looked the same as Business class, just a smaller cabin and a much larger seat pitch. Not worth the extra unless someone else is paying

I did say that i've never been with Eva so of course i'll have no air miles to upgrade with. The first class non-stop prices were ... Eva .... £1875.00 ..... Qantas ..£4049.00 ... BA ...£5229.00 ..... Or if your happy to have a stop over ... Gulf air £2297.00.

Some have said better to go Business class with BA or Qantas, going by what most people think here and what i know myself ... i would say your right. The only thing is A Qantas business class is £2925.00 and the the BA is £3015.00. The Eva business ticket was £1223.00 and as for world traveller plus .... i'll go with Niall on this

I'll be flying out on the 6th March 2005, all the above prices were for that day

Just a quick update from a cool internet cafe in hot Lamai Beach, Samui. My flight arrived inbound at LHR 3 hours late, the aircraft was full and I couldn't upgrade to Evergreen or Business. However, I had an aisle seat in the zoo and it wasn't too bad, 34" I think.

I paid 18 quid to go into the SAS London lounge, no hot food, biccies etc plus cheese and a small salad bar. I had my share of Carlsberg and Gin and Tonics and watched Conair in the TV lounge.

There was a danger that our flight may not be able to depart as LHR closes at night, however a quick turnround and we took off about 2335, just 2 hours late.

Apparently there had been fog in Tapei, the taxi to the runway was so quick that the cabin crew didn't perform the safety checks

Arrived BKK about 95 mins late, straight through immigration :D baggage came off really quick :D taxi was waiting for quick drive to Pattaya in the Mitsubishi Evolution(copy copy) :D

Sorry you'll have to wait about 10 days for details of my sordid activities.

Gus,

Did you just walk up to desk for sas lounge and pay or is there a special

way to be invited to pay?.

Is this the london lounge same as air Canada?.

I have been in many times when on business with Thai but if there is a way

to pay when in coach this is good news for the thirsty among us.

Nope you must be in Super Business class or Super First or a member or EVA's frequent flyer programme and at least silver level.
