Teeth Whitening

I noticed last week on my last trip lots of places around town now offering laser teeth whitening. I've been looking to have it done in the UK, at a cost of around £400, ie circa 30,000bht. One place I noticed was advertising it from 10,000bht, so basically a third of the price back home. I asked one Tilac about it and she was basically saying that laser whitening is in it's infancy in Thailand, and wasn't really sure how good it would be, lets face it Thai's have all got perfect white teeth anyway.

 

So my question is, any of you guy's had it done before over there, or any guys who live there what is the dental care like in general in Pattaya?? Is it worth having it done?

 

Any advice would be appreciated.

Spoke to one young lad in January who had just had it done and he was in a great deal of discomfort, told me when they were doing it it hurt like crazy!!!

His teeth were itching now and he was told this was normal for a couple of day.

I'm sure if you had it done in the big medical facility like Bumrungrad Hospital in BKK the quality of treatment will be as good or better than back home.

 

The question is do you really want the treatment? I've thought about it a couple of times as I'd like whiter teeth but some people have told me these treatments damage the natural enamel on your teeth and they will get discoloured again only worse and it will be more difficult to get them white again. Maybe those with more medical knowledge than I can share their knowledge on this aspect of teeth whitening.

My buddies wife was going to get it done on the last trip. She wanted the laser process. They started at 12,000 Baht, but only did the front teeth in this process and wanted her to return for 2 other visits. Next thing you know it was up to 16,000 Baht.

 

She is 100% Thai and started to feel like this was going to be a ripoff, so she passed on the process and got it done in the Usa for $350.

 

Besides that, all my Dental work has been done in Thailand at a very reasonable cost. I've had 3 crowns and 1 filling done for 1/2 the cost

I've got a mate who is a dental Technician. I asked him about having Laser treatment done when I visited Pattaya.

He said whatever I do, do not have laser whitening done.

 

He recommended the option where you get a cast made of your teeth. You then fill this up with some liquid (Don't no what it is) and put it around your teeth.

You either sleep with this in or keep on for a few hours.

this is the method I use in the uk. everytime I go to the dentist (every 6 months) I get 2 of these plastic syringes cost about £12 each, squirt the liquid into the plastic cast of my teeth (which I had done on the initial deal) wear overnight and take off in the morning. Seems to work, done twice a year and no discomfort, although can be a bit sensitive for a coupe of days

No problem whatever with having the teeth whitening exercise - speak from First Hand (do I mean Teeth?) experience? I had it done in the place on Second Road at the T junction with Soi 6. Ultra modern surgery & spotlessly clean. If you've been up & down Soi 6 half a dozen times in one afternoon & not found the company your looking for then with an hour and a half or so still to spare they will do it for you for 12,000 baht. I didn't even need an appointment although went there with the idea of arranging one. They did it there & then. No problems with it at all - painless (though I think the technician did give me some pain killer tablets in case I had any tooth ache problem at night). They do tell you not to drink tea/coffee/coke for a few days after as these discolour the cleaned teeth. The place I mention has a sign outside for tooth whitening so you cannot miss it - assume you are trying to walk to Big C from the top of Soi 6 - cross the road & you are virtually there before you have begun your walk. Had mine done about 18 months ago - may well have a repeat next trip - when is my next trip? I'm at LHR now waiting for the plane in about 2 hours time..... : feels like waiting outside of the Gates of Heavan - I hope they let me in......

Here is the deal about bleaching your teeth. I sell dental supplies in dental offices - cements, composite filling material, impression material and of course - bleach. All sorts of bleach. The stuff you "squirt" into a custom bleaching tray is Carbimide Peroxide - breaks down to Hydrogen Peroxide in your mouth. Must be 50 brands - BIG Money in bleaching for dental offices. Every one wants white teeth - some sooo white it looks like white paint !! Be aware you can not bleach porcelain crowns and it also does not work on composite fillings or veneers.. Some people are very sensitive to higher concentrations. 5% Hydrogen = about 15% Carbimide. Highest I've seen is about 20% Carbimide - probably need lots of Ibuprofen for days for a sensetive person. There is a brand of 5% Hydrogen that you wear for 30 minutes a day for 7 days and has very low sensitivity. Also, the Brite Smile paint-on pen system is mildly effective.

Studys have shown that the use of a high power UV lite system is NOT much more effective than the bleach itself - a marketing tool. Most dentists were UN-Aware of this when they bought the UV bleaching systems, but some patients insist on the UV procedure. Most of the cost, to you the patient, is haveing the appointment to take the impression in order to make the custom bleaching tray - this helps to keep the bleach on the teeth that need to be bleached and away from your gum tissue. Bleach will burn your tissue and it also will be white, for awhile.

If you are normal with yellowish-tint teeth (the best for bleaching, best results) then seems to me the easy way is to buy Crest or Oral-B White Strips (think Oral-B is a little stronger) and use them for 10 to 14 days. Cost around $50 US. If you can find a Non-Fluoride toothpaste, use it until the bleaching course is done. Flouride may interfere with the bleching process

If you have a grayish tint or very heavy stains, then a trip to the dentist is the only way.

Chantrycat you lucky man, you are probably whitening your teeth on some BG breast as we speak, just a quick question re your treatment, did it make a significant difference to the couour??
