Connecting laptop to iinternet at Internet Cafe

Recommended Posts

If any one is really worried about keyloggers do this:

Open a word processing program and type in a bunch of garbage with pieces of your password mixed in. Then cut and paste them into the password entry box in sections. Don't forget to delet the clipboard info when you are done.

Psychodad: Altough not impossible to log the data from the AP, you would gain nothing at all, as Internet Banking is based on Encryption.

So you have the (hopefully WPA, not WEP) encryption from the Notebook to the AP (which by itself is reasonably safe against local third party attacks) and then the https part ...... Don't see the possibility to break this chain from the shopowner's desk.

Its easy as a man-in-the-middle to use wrong ssl or ssh keys when the user connetcs to his bank.

After that, the man-in-the-middle can read everything unencrypted.

You would not even have to be a computer expert for that to make this attack.

If the router is yours, its simple.

But its not the right forum or thread to discuss this. Everything who want to know more, simply google for it.

All i want to say is that if you do bank transactions in an internet cafe or wifi spot, be warned, only do it if you really have to do it.

A poster above described how to defeat keyloggers. Cut and paste from a notepad that you open and onto which you type many random characters including those you need for a password, but not typed in order.

The keylogger won't know which of the random characters is the password. Cut/paste to the password window.

This does work.

This Keylogger trick will work on some (probably most) Loggers, but there are some on the market that take snapshots of all open windows at given intervals, and record mousemovements, so you're still not fully safe.

Psychodoad: Yes, I am aware of this possibility, but as I understand it you have to specifically set up the system for just one victim: Recreate the appearance of his E-Banking program, and all this. Looks like there is no way of setting this up and routinely monitor all secure movements. But when I know some details of your Bank and eBanking, and have lots of time and energy, and am very good in writing code, I might be able to do it.

Still would this consider a very small risk, compared to many others we all undergo daily without thinking about them at all.

As a matter of fact, bricks do fall off walls and hit passer's heads. Do you consider undergoing safety measures against this?
