Displayed prices are for multiple nights. Check the site for price per night. I see hostels starting at 200b/day and hotels from 500b/day on agoda.

I do love Pattaya :( but also want to see other parts of Thailand - I have had limited success so far with tearing myself away from Pattaya 1luv

I have however visited various parts of the country but never Isaan - I want to change that and think a few days in Khon Khean would be a nice start.

So can anyone recommend a nice (not too fancy :P ) hotel in Khon Khean ?

Stayed in Khon Khaen about a month ago. KOSA Hotel is not bad, centrally located and close to beer bars. Room is about 800 Baht (dont remember exactly) Breakfast included.

I went there last summer for 2 days for much the same reason. Must say I'm glad I didn't plan for any longer, not a real happening place for a tourist. Stayed at the Sofitel, quite comfortable for about 1800, as I recall. Some decent bars in the basement of the hotel, you may want to check out the disco even if you don't stay at the hotel, nice lighting system and plenty of cute university girls. Also went to Violin Karaoke, but someone told me it's closed now. There's also a karaoke bar in the basement of the Sofitel.

Without question, if you can possibly afford the 1800 baht, stay at the Sofitel. This is a real 5* hotel for less than $50 a night. Go ahead an splurge a little. Includes a really nice b'fast buffet as well.
