This site seems to be for the younger set but I like the honesty of the replies so here goes!!

We are a retired couple - quite mobile! looking for somewhere to stay for a month in February 2006 which is clean respectable and obviously on a limited income, reasonably priced.

Did some queries on apartments in Jomtien area but after reading your messages, having second thoughts.

Fair Properties want you to pay £378 for month's rental when booking then want another £378 when you arrive and they say they deduct water & electricity from that and then return to you whats left at end of holiday! A bit of a rip off I think!

Again thought about the service charges- cleaning towels & bed linen changes that goes with apartment rental and really need some help - although we do like a nice balcony where we can chill out with a glass or two!

Which part of Pattaya would suit us - ie nice beach, convenience to shops restuarants etc.

Sorry guys - not where you pick up girls! I don't want my husband's blood pressure going sky high!!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,

Welcome to the board. Now is a good time to start your search but don't lollygag(procrastinate). Sorry, it's the Southern Comfort. Seriously, read everything in the hotel review section on his board and you may also find a little info at (click on link ->)Pattaya section of BKK forum It's generalized but it might help.

Your budget might be cutting it a little close but, for example, Dynasty Inn(Soi 13 Pattaya) had a regular rate of Bt990 per night that went down to Bt600 for monthly stays in 2004. Their nightly rate is now Bt1200. I have no idea what the monthly rate is set at now. It's a nice place and location, except for the current area construction, and I don't think I'd recommend the Dynasty for what you're looking for but I thought I'd mention it as an example of daily versus monthly rates.

I've never stayed there but you might want to look into the View Talay properties at(click on link->) Click on your language . This board is a wonderful resource for your questions. Don't be afraid to ask. Hope it helps.

Fair Properties offer really a rip off, as it is about 28.000BHT/month... This price in View Talay is way too high. I renting out a fair, common condo for 12.000BHT. Even a 28.000 deposit is stupid... I'm asking 2-4.000. You are right on that renting a condo is a little bit more hassle, but way cheaper, than the hotels and the quality of the rooms are often better, than a 5* hotel. In VT2 the room cleaning service is 180BHT, the laundry for a sheet 30-50BHT, for a pillow 5BHT. About the electricity you have to see the meter upon your arrival and pay no more, than 5BHT/unit.

I agree this guy running the viewtalay.com Website is reasonable with his prices, and correct.

Chose the style and price you want to spend for your Condo, and expect to add maybe 3000 or 4000 Bt a month for utilities and cleaning/fresh sheets/towels twice a week. In case you want cleaning and sheets every Day, tell him in advance, and expect to pay another 3000 - 4000 Bt for this service.

I used these Condos quite often before I rented my house, and always received good service.

He does not demand payment before arrival, but does collect the rent for one moth in advance, plus a deposit against Electricity and cleaning.

Only thing you should be aware is that his Condos are on lower floors (2nd - 5th), and the Balcony at View Talay is not big enough to spread out, rather for drying laundry and eventually going outside for a smoke.....

Hope that helps, and lots of fun in Pattaya! And take care of your husband .....

Sunny

hi dajan17 i personaly would not come to pattaya if i was in your position unless I had a good reason to be there, like family or friends in the area, there are many much more suitable places with nice beaches in thailand that are better for "a holiday" than pattaya I am 54 so not the younger set and most of the guys I meet up with are my age or older(there are some youngsters but not very many) but we are not there "to holiday"we go to pattaya for its other charms. The hotels that are budget priced are in the main not what I think you would call "respectable"and only the higher priced hotels and resorts discourage "guests" I think that you may be happier in Phuket or Koh Samui which are much more the "holiday"scene as the beaches in pattaya and jontiem are not the best(I think blackpool beach is cleaner, tho colder)and if you want to spend time on the beach and in the sea I wouldn't try that here.I have no wish to frighten you away if you are determined to come, but come with your eyes open

dajan17;

Welcome to the board! :bonk

I’m not sure of your exact lodging specifications so before I post my Pattaya lodging preferences any additional info that you can provide will be appreciated.

I’ve spent the last 5 trips in the same condo 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, full kitchen and a large living room. I pay about $22 USD per night (Studio apt. about $15 per night) inclusive of utilities and taxes.

Best of luck in your search. PM me or post a reply I you would like more info.

Have a great time, Cheers :devil .

I/d go for the Golden Crab Soi 13 apartment style rooms bedroom/bathroom/kitchen/living room......approx 18000/month .

Currently they are extending the property but work is due for completion Dec this year. By next year all work in the Soi should be completed. Very handy for shops etc.

I'd have to agree also, rather than go to Pattaya, I'd suggest you go to one of the Islands such as Koh Samui, Koh Samet or Koh Chang, All these are in the gulf and well away from the Tsunami region. I was in Koh Samet recently myself recently, it's a lovely place to relax and unwind, I preferred it to Koh Samui personally. It all depends on what level of relaxation you are looking for. Samet might be too relaxing for a month, Maybe 2 weeks on Samet and then 2 weeks on Samui. If that is an option then the best flight from samet to koh Samui is out of Utapao and should be booked well in advance on www.Bangkokair.com. only one flight per day. This will save the long trip to Bangkok for flights
