I am looking for first hand information for any of the 3 mentioned hotels. I have never stayed at any of the three and have only heard from others about the hotels. I am looking for the usual info, i.e. rates, condition, room differences within that hotel, etc. I have gotten some info from the reviews, but still have questions. I will be there in September, so any info if the construction will be finished or if it is even a problem would be good. Thanks for any help you provide.

I like Sabai Inn in the new wing. pvte balcony, large bed, nicely appointed, quiet. on soi 2 and away from the action but its great during the day for soi6, massages and the big C.

I stayed at Areca in about a year a ago and it was a pleasant experience.

- Great staff. Very friendly and helpful.

- Never had a problem bringing ladies in.

- Standard rooms are a good value but overlook an empty lot. Didn't bother me as you still have a commanding view of the area and get to watch little domestic scenes playing out in the alley ways. I got a kick out of that. Deluxe rooms are same-same but overlook the pool area.

- Rooms have large, comfortable beds. Small bathrooms with shower/tub. Rooms are carpeted which was a must in my book. On reflection I would say the rooms are a bit small. I stayed at Sabai Inn on that same trip and found the room much larger.

- Breakfast was ok. I never went hungry.

- Kiss Food is right around the corner which was nice for quick, cheap eats.

Regarding construction noise. You shouldn't have any at the Sabai, Flipper Lodge isn't that far away from where they cleared out the beer bars on Soi 9 so something could be in the works for that area. Soi 13 has 2 project going, Golden Crab expansion which will go into next year and the AA Residence which has just begun.

Sandy Spring gives you one free Tiger draft beer per day. Thats better than a Thai ABF.

It does ? I wasn't made aware of this...are you talking about the minibar or downstairs in the lobby bar ?

Damn if they have Tiger draft at the mini bar in the room, I might just change hotels. Tiger draft, mmmmmm good. :D

And a cheaper room rate.

Bigmike.

This is not really true. Deluxe rooms booked thru Scandibar are 1250, anyway, if you purchase the Sandy Springs membership card for 350 per year the rate is only 1200. So after 7 nights you are better off. But I booked thru Scandi anyway for May (will be there 8 nights at the beginning and another 6 at the end of the month), they even changed my coupons to "freshly pressed" orange juice instead of beer  .

You do realize that Sandy Spring put their rates up not that long ago, so I think you may find the Scandibar rates competitive.

Mike, I realize the Scandibar rates are competitive. If you read my post again you might notice that I already said I have booked for a total of 14 nights thru Scandibar. I would not have done this if they rates were not competive. And I am more than willing to pay the little surcharge for the excellent communication with Eric. But I also wanted to point out that one can get it a bit cheaper when buying the membership card! BTW, Scandibar had to raise prices last year to be 50 Baht above membership rates!
