Recommended Posts

Hi every 1 .iam new to this site

but am a regular Thailand tourist been going since 1997 been about 12 times in total

but never thought of livening in LOS .now things at home have changed

and I could go next year after I have sold my flat /apartment in London

which will leave me with about £35,000 don't no what I could do with that in pattaya as I have never looked into this before

could I buy a small bar or business and still have money to rent a small studio etc

I have no idea what bars .pubs shops go for in pattaya or anywhere really

if not whats the chance of me getting some sort of job to tied me over when my 35 grand runs out

I don't want to be rich just get buy and have a few beers each day

any info would be great

I'll give you 25,000 for it! just kidding.....

35,000 left over after your sale and you are considering moving? I would really re-think that strategy.

Darbs, I reckon you got a bit excited about your plans, this is the airline deals section, maybe you will get more replies in another section. :beer

Wrong section but I'll reply anyway.

My mate Norman (Tiger) moved to Pattaya 4 years ago with £25.000.00, he lasted 12 months. He is now back in the UK in a council flat (last year he spent 4 months on my settee).

In Samui with £25.000.00 I think me and my wife could stay for 5 years, and be comfortable.

Funny enough I did a few sums in my head and thought that I would need £500 per week to live in Pattaya, this is for hotel/apartment,drinks, food, bar fines, Lt money, clothes, massage etc etc.

This seems to be the amount your friend has spent 500x 52 = 25K, that's the trouble, your money just goes no matter how frugal you try to be. :D

Possibly the only way around it is not to 'pay bar' for lady every night, then what's the point of being in LOS anyway, I guess you would need £250K to have half a chance, unless you drink outside 7/11 and shag Beach Road skanks for 300. :D

it can be done, thats about 2.5 million baht????, im sure you could lease a beer bar cheap enough, its making a profit and keeping it going that will fuck you up, rather you than me.

A few guys on here run beer bars, maybe if you post in the correct section they will reply.

You don't have enough money to buy a bar and operate it. You can live in Pattaya on 30K baht per month or you can move up north near Laos and live on less maybe 20K per month. What type of work do you plan on doing? Teaching English is one way to make money. Check out www.ajarn.com

I've lived on 30K and it's doable and I didn't screw Beach Road skanks. :D

If you haven't owned/Run a bar or another business back home, then don't think you can go to Thailand and set one up there, you will be skint in no time. It's a business that has to work, not a hobbie

80% of Farang owned bar beers fail within 12  months

Where did you get this info from??

Darbs if your serious then come here (if not here already) and have a good look around, For that type of cash you could find a little gem somewhere, maybe a share of an existing bar. There are several gogo's for sale, some good, some not good.

I invested 30k 3 years ago and so far so good.

Don't get sucked in by other farangs though. :beer

I agree Dave, too many negative vibes on this site, jesus christ, most businesses set up in the UK fail as well, for the same reasons as businesses fail all over the world, Cashflow!!!! The bottom line is, if it were easy, everyone would be doing it, if you have what it takes, some common sense and probably a tad of luck, then why not...

Good luck mate... :beer

Its all on Location,as Big D said.A good friend of mine rents a house in Issan.About an hours drive south east of Korat city.He pays 4,000 baht a month for this lovely 3 bed bungalow on 3 rai of land.Hes living a very good life & hes got about 2 million baht in an bank account in LOS which he thinks should last him over 20 years if all goes well.

The thing he did do before moving out was seelling his house & buying a one bed flat which he rents out back in the UK.With the equity he made from the sale of his house he stuck half in LOS & the other on the mortgage of his flat.So he rents his flat out for £600 pm & only has a £300 to pay on the mortgage of his flat.As long as he rents his flat out & keeps getting the extra £300 he has it made.

Hope this makes sense :D

Martini and davetahiland both make good points about CASH FLOW. That's one thing you have and a bar owner with a good location might make a good business partner. Do you have any experience in business? How old are you and are you young enough to go back home and make more money?

FWIW teaching English as a second language is alot different then teaching in elementary school. TEXT&TALK SCHOOL has a location in Pattaya. Good teachers, good course, it may be worth your wile to go and talk to them. Having the ability to earn 20 to 40K baht per month with a legal work permit may help you stay.

  • 3 weeks later...

40000 quid is about $120000 nz,there are fianance co.s offering 9.5% secured per annum, giving $11400nz return, thats 296400 baht, should give you 12months if you are carefull. this return may alter by taxes, but just tossing another idea for you to consider and you still hve your investment-- cheers Oldtimer

Could I retire comfortably in Thailand somewhere around the area of Pattaya for about $1000 US a month? Not looking to buy a house or live in a hotel maybe a condo somewhere. Have a little TG come in a couple of times a week to take care of those primal urges.
