i am a regular Thailand tourist been going since 1997 been about 12 times in total

but never thought of livening in LOS .now things at home have changed

and I could go next year after I have sold my flat /apartment in London

which will leave me with about £35,000 to £40,000

don't no what I could do with that in pattaya as I have never looked into this before

could I buy a small bar or business and still have money to rent a small studio etc

I have no idea what bars .pubs shops go for in pattaya or anywhere really

if not whats the chance of me getting some sort of job to tied me over when my 35 grand runs out

I don't want to be rich just get buy and have a few beers each day

any info would be great

There seems a lot of GoGos on Walking Street available, is this because the government may knock down the sea side of the road in the future and the owners are bailing out?

darbs, There are many British bar owners, I am sure when you are there if you buy them a beer they'll give you loads of good info.

Be careful though, you know how the saying go's

"How do you make a small fortune in Pattaya?"

"Start off with a Big one!"

Some of the Brit bar owners I speak to say they do not make much money but it leaves them OK and after all they are in Pattaya, I think within Thailand the better your business does the more people take an interest in it :D

  • 3 weeks later...

I was in a similar position and for what its worth here is my opinion.....

Come out here for a 3 month holiday, look upon it as a holiday first and a fact finding mission second.

Get to understand how each Soi works and find one that fits what you. Become a regular and listen as much as you can and say as little as you have to. For Christs sake dont tell a sole you have money or want to buy a bar because within about oh I suppose a good 10 minutes you will be surrounded by people trying to help. Check out the pattaya mail and some of the web sites to see what bars are up for sale and drop by all the time to see what business really is like.

Whilst there are a lot of people that will try and roll you and your money there are plenty of straight up guys. Take your time and try and talk to as many people as you can.

Running a bar is not easy if you end up in Soi 8 expect to be open till 4/5/6am away from there then 1/2 is the norm. Also consider this place has its fair share of fools which have to be tolerated. Then obviously there is the chance of a silent partner.........

darbs, what sort of income from the UK are you going to have? Do you have any experience of running a bar or other kind of business in the UK? Can you afford to lose most of or all of your £35,000/£40,000?

Another point for you to consider. Have you worked out a budget for your likely monthly expenditure? I'm retiring to Pattaya in a few weeks time :chogdee and reckon my expenditure will be in the region of 80,000 baht or so per month, though there are substantial savings you could make on this.

I would go along with what para says - come out for an extended holiday, but remember to get the appropriate visa first so you don't have to do visa runs every 30 or so days.
