Check the meeting section on this forum and look for reliable car and driver topic. Many services are listed and I've used Alex many times and have been pleased with his service. Then again other guys have not been happy.

Hotels near the Beach. High end is Marriott. Flipper lodge is medium priced and Sky-Top is low end. I've stayed at each of the hotels and they are good value for the money.

I have spent a lot of time in and around Pattaya, also a lot of time browsing the net about Pattaya, I have yet to see any other mention of a hotel called the skytoppattaya, or just the skytop hotel. Please enlighten me as to where it is.

Check out "Hotel Reviews", Pattaya hotel less than 1000 and your question should be answered.

Turn left from Customs. Ignore the offers of a taxi in Terminal. Walk outside to Taxi booth. Get taxi for about 1300 bht, have a kip for 2 hours after giving driver 120 bht for toll. :beer

Mr Churchill,

What is your problem with what I recommend? I don't go after you from thread to thread. Are you familiar with the term "thread fucking". Stop it.

For the guy who been to Pattaya a couple of times and knows his way around the taxi from the airport works well. Most drivers don't speak English and don't know there way around Pattaya.

jgarty38,

Sky-Top is an inexpensive hotel with AC, TV, fridge and in room safe for 450 and up. Clean and one block from Beach Road. Good value for the money.

It looks as if happy will be on his 1st trip to Pattaya,Alex as you know has let people down in the past, and you keep recommending him,i should imagine it would be a bit scary for a newbie waiting for unreliable transport at the airport,so who is in the wrong here? me for advising the guy of the pitfalls with Alex or you recommending an unreliable driver?as for thread fucking i would sooner help a guy than leave him well fucked and stranded at the airport.

For the guy who been to Pattaya a couple of times and knows his way around the taxi from the airport works well. Most drivers don't speak English and don't know there way around Pattaya.

The lady/guy at the taxi booth at the Airport speaks good English. You simply tell her/him that you want a new car with a driver that speaks English and knows his way around Pattaya. There will always be a couple in the queue and no-one is going to get upset if you do. Simple really, and as long as your eyes/mouth are in working order it shouldn't be too difficult to confirm that your request has been complied with.

A recurring theme about Alex (and other one-man operators) is not only that he is unreliable but when (if) you are able to contact him he is offhand, unapologetic and, on occasions, sub-contracts to drivers that can't speak English and don't know their way around Pattaya. All in all, it's potentially a lot of hassle that you could do without when you have just arrived in LOS, especially if you are a first-time visitor.

If at all possible, get the name and address of your hotel in THAI along with their phone number so that if your driver gets lost he can phone the hotel and get instructions. Of course, this assumes that the driver knows where he is at any given moment! :D

On my last two trips, I've had to give instructions to the driver to get to the RG! :beer

You cut and paste part of the answer and you leave out that many services are listed. Trying to leave the impression Alex is the only way to get to Pattaya. Alex is but one way to get to Pattaya.

You never stayed at Sky-Top how do you know what it's like or not like. To many guys have stayed there and liked it and thought it was good value for the money. Then again your animosity you have toward me shows thru all your post especially when you follow me from thread to thread.

Simple answer really the guy was asking for help getting from bkk to pattaya, i realise you have difficulty in understanding the word "Help" because your reply was

"I've used Alex many times and have been pleased with his service. Then again other guys have not been happy."

O.K with that so far? now lets work this bit out - " I've used Alex many times and have been pleased with his service" ok still with it? You personally have been happy :beer hold on while i have a beer, now the next bit which leaves me amazed at your recommendation for transportation to Pattaya, "Then again other guys have not been happy" ok let,s try and work this one out, why were they not happy? can you explain? you stated "other guys were not happy" Why at the beginning of your reply to happy didn,t you state Alex always picks me up at the airport but he,s let other people down so i being a bit dim would like to put his name forward to pick you up at the airport because at least if he picks you up he will find your hotel in Pattaya SAVVY? :D :banghead :banghead

Mr Churchill,

It seems you have difficulty understanding the written word. When I tell someone to check the reliable car and driver topic and that many services are listed. I'm telling him to look thru the topic and make his own decision and I add that I've used Alex and I've been satisfied but you seem to miss the part where I tell him others have not been happy. I don't have to spell it out for the guy asking help as I figure he will read the topic and hopefully he will understand English better then you do.

To answer your questions...

1. Stay the night in BKK @ the Nana Hotel

2. Take the bus for a mere 90 Baht to Pattaya {next day}

3. Go for the RG in Pattaya, it's close enough to the beach/action and is a very nice place.

ok i never stayed at the skyslops but these guys did, dunno what you drink there to find it ok?maybe meths.

love the bit about your 500 baht longtimers

ok here we go dusa recommends this hotel these guys stayed there and heres there honest account of the place.

I stayed Skytop for a week earlier this yr in the big room and there was no in-room safe. IMHO I thought it (the room) was the pits and would never stay there again. Staff however were very pleasant. The "hotel" is obviously converted office space as all the fluros and marks on the floor where walls have been ripped up testify.

Correction to my last post; there was an in-room safe which did not function all that well.

This hotel was disgusting. Yes, the staff are quite friendly but the rooms are disgusting. Where to start. My room had the cable for the TV coming out of the ceiling in the middle of the room and draped over to the TV. The beds only had a comforter and a fitted sheet. No flat sheet. I am almost positive those comforters are not dry cleaned after every guest so imagine all the various body fluids you are sleeping in every night. My friend who also checked in had the "executive suite" with two rooms. Only problem with that is the aircon is in the living room and there is no circulation in the bedroom which was sweltering. Might be okay if you planned on sleeping and not getting much "sexercise". We checked in and promptly checked out. I moved to the Hotel Delomer (not sure on spelling) on Walking Street. Much closer to the action and not terribly expensive. Will stay there whenever in Pattaya unless I'm invited to stay with expatchuck

This was not a personal attack on your choice of lodgings. It was an honest report on my impression of that hotel. I have a pretty high tolerance and LOVE to save money. You have given me very valuable advice through the years including the suggestion for Parkway Plaza next to the Landmark for a late night massage after a long flight. This on my first trip to Thailand several years back. But, this place is the pits. My friend who is even more tight with money than I am was actually the one who wanted to bolt. He took two very small beds at flipper rather than a larger bed at Sky Top. He has stayed at some rather spartan places during his years in Thailand and he could not stomach this hotel. I am aware that the comforters are not cleaned after every guest but I'm pretty sure they are changing the sheets. Not sure about this at skytop. I'm wondering now what your 500 baht LT's look like.

Anyway, thanks for the many great postings through the years. Valuable information. I just disagree with you on the value of this hotel. I'm not sure I could stay here if they were paying me to take a room. I would think a BG would rather go back to her place for boom boom. That says a lot.

Went to Skytop on Friday night, as mentioned.

"Medium" room (#103) for B.550. I guess I haven't done the cheap charlie before and am spoiled too much for travelling for business, so my expectations were way too high. In retrospect, I would have gladly paid up to 4x as much for something nice, my own fault for not doing so as there are certainly enough options to do so. Bottom line to me was that it wasn't much more than a short-time room with a TV, just bigger.

No safe in the room. Would have preferred a real bathroom with a real shower to partially-walled off space with a sink, toilet and shower hose on the wall. As DUSA says, at least the air con worked, cable worked (though odd variety of channels: CNN Headline News from US instead of CNN international; a Russian channel; various Indian channels; no ESPN or Star Sports) and there was a fridge, though I didn't use it. The BG I took back didn't seem to mind the place.

Not for me, but I guess given the price I shouldn't complain

Where is this bus mate? A Number?

Usually is there any seating places?

How long does it take and how many stops does it make? :eyecrazy

B) cheers.

From Nana you can catch the Sky-Train to Eckamai Station and the bus station is right there. Buy a ticket to Pattaya for 90 baht and the bus is clearly marked. It leaves every 30 minutes. Depending on traffic it takes two hours and it doesn't make many stops. Usually no problem getting a seat on the next bus. Except during holidays then the bus terminal looks like the last helicopter out of Saigon.

BigDUSA,

From what I have been told on another forum recently, I would suggest that Mor Chit (Northern Bus Terminal) is a better bet. I understand it has a/c which Ekkamai has not, and also easier and quicker to get out of Bangkok. :P
