Can anyone suggest some good Guest friendly Chiang Mai hotels?

I have looked in the review area and not much there, so any help would be appreciated

Hello, I have stayed at the Porn Ping about 10 times in the last couple of years and have never had any problems!

They have an own karaoke bar (nice word for brothel) in the basement and their Disco (used to be called Bubbles but has changed name, not to worry they all still now bubbles). It is very close to the action and walking distance to nightmarket and godd restaurants.

Don't forget to ask a tower room as they are newer!

I will again stay at the S.K.House next month. 30 Moon Muang Road Soi 9, Tel. (O53) 418396. I stayed there 2 years ago and paid 650 Baht for a room right next to their nice swimming pool. I think their prices might have increased a bit since then. Thais run the place and they are a friendly lot and all speak good English. They also organise tours and have a cheap and good in-house restaurant. The place is in a very quiet area. The only thing I didn’t like was that they didn’t have good safe deposit boxes. They only had ordinary lockers near the reception area and you had to supply your own padlock.

 

It’s about 5 minutes by Tuk tuk (50 Baht) to the bar area on Loi Kroh Road or the Night Bazaar. I took a girl from Pattaya on the bus trip to Chiang mai with me, which was a mistake. There are some very attractive and fair-skinned beauties available in Chiang mai and there is no need to bring your own.

 

There was never a problem bringing a girl to the guesthouse. They will probably think there is something wrong with you if you don’t.

Hello LOSO,

I stayed at Porn Ping Tower in March 2003, i think penthouse has summed up the

hotel pretty accurately. things are a lot quieter in Chiang Mai than Bangkok or

Pattaya, but like he says everything you need is available at PPT.

i would definitely recommend this Hotel.

I can't vouch for whether this hotel is "guest friendly" or not, but I found it to be so outstanding for the price that I wish to bring it to your attention. A few weeks ago, I stayed at the Rydges Amora Tapae hotel in Chiang Mai. This is one of the newest hotels in town, located directly adjacent to the Old City and about a 15-minute walk to the Night Bazaar (halfway through that walk takes you to an area of beer bars).

 

My room was spacious, modern, fully-equipped, and (unlike so many Thai hotels) there was plenty of hot water for the bathtub/shower. Booking using www.sawadee.com for a minimum of 3 nights, I was able to get a daily room rate of 1,000 baht, including taxes, service charges, a fantastic breakfast buffet, and round-trip airport transfers. The only minor negatives I noticed are they charge a fee of around 100 baht a day if you use the in-room safe and there's no English language news station among the numerous TV channels.

 

I wish I knew of a hotel as nice with such a great breakfast buffet and transfers for twice that price in Bangkok and/or Pattaya. I really think it would be worth checking with the hotel for their policy on unregistered guests. Regardless of their official policy, I suspect a tip to the security guard at the hotel entrance would preclude any problems.

The Montri doesn't have a pool does it?

 

Anyone know how Porn Ping compares with Royal Lanna? There are good reports about RL, I will be in CM for the first time in November, about Loy Krathong time.

no pool at the montri, but it was OK to me. near everything. there is a moat near by (for loy krathong, not swimming)

A few weeks ago, I stayed at the Rydges Amora Tapae hotel in Chiang Mai.

They definitely do not like "joiners" as you can read in the hotel descriptions laying out in each room. But if you want somebody to "join" they will ask for 600 Baht!
