Mobile network price war

Recommended Posts

This article appeared on Thai Visa thisafternoon:

BANGKOK: -- The ongoing price war in Thailand's mobile-phone industry intensified, with TA Orange introducing a new campaign that will cut fees further, Bangkok Post reports.

Under the new promotion, the first minute of a call within TA Orange's network and the fixed-line network of its parent True Corp. (TRUE.TH) will cost THB1, the second and fourth minutes will be THB0.25 each while the third and fifth minutes are free.

For calls to other networks, customers will be charged THB2 for the first minute and rates similar to its in-network promotional pricing for the subsequent minutes, the paper reports.

Lets see if this will create a general shakeup.

My Question to Orange

On 21 May 05 I bought an orange card for THB199 from a 7 Eleven shop in Bangkok. The staff helped me to activate my line at about 2 PM and told me to use it after 15 minutes after her call. However, the line was not activated after an hour despite my repeated call to 1331. I went back to the 7 Eleven shop, the staff also tired for me but to no avail. The reply from 1331 was that "the number has been registering now" As a result I could not use the card for the day ie 21 May 05. It was only on 22 May 05 at about 8.30 AM when I was at the Bangkok airport then I received the message from orange for the service activation.. Kindly look into the matter and revert to me. Thank & Regards Alan

Dear Oracha Thongpradit

Thank you for your reply. I would appreciate it if you could provide me the following information:

1. What is the expiry date of my card 065355484 which was bought on 21 May 05?

2. As I had left Thailand on 22 May, could I use this card on August 05 when I go to Thailand?

From 18 May to 21 May I bought 3 call cards 065358268, 065358345 and 065355484. The first two cards used up very fast (about less than 30 minutes call for each card). Please let me know how many minutes can I call for each card (THB199)

3. Why the top up of card (minimum THB300) is more expensive than a new card (THB199)?

4.Is there a service centre in Thailand which I can call in case of need? If so, what is the telephone number?

  • 3 weeks later...

Took My card back and was told I would be required to pay 1,300 baht a month for the duration of the contract, (1 Year). I pointed out that I could not get a signal in North road where I live or Third road, so was therefore unable to use their service.

They were indifferent and said I would still have to pay. :chogdee2

Decided on some mobile advertising regarding their service by using a large board and vocals next to their stand in Royal garden. They cancelled the contract and refunded my sim card money within 10 minutes :D

I then went and signed on with AIS, no problems at all.

I hate to use AIS (because of its links with Toxin) but they have the best network. International calls using 008,009 are cheap and 95% of the time the quailty is very good.

Orange is a poor 3rd to AIS #1 & Dtac #2
