Hello maybe this doesn't belong on here but I figured I'd ask and see what response I get. I'm looking at flights to Manila from Pittsburgh USA the cheapest I find for December is 1250USD on China airlines has anyone flown them? What is the Teipei Airport like?? I've only ever flown on Northwest or United before except for a short trip on Thai air. Any input would be welcome or the next best fare is Asiana Air where I would get miles credited to my United account at 1588USD which would be your pick if you had to choice between these airlines? Thanks for your help

Where are you making the connection to China Air and what airline will you be using to get there?

Terminal One a CKS/Taipei airport sucks. Worst airport I've seen in years. That is the bad news. The good news is, as of January of this year, flights from and to the U.S. arrive and depart at the new Terminal Two. Night and Day difference between the two terminals. Also, you use to have to walk clear across the old terminal, but China Air has gates near to a small "train" that connects the two terminals. So, it is a "relatively" short walk from the gate at Terminal 2 to the train and from the train to your gate in Terminal 1. A tremendous improvement over the old "system."

China Air has made great improvements to their safety record in the last couple of years.

thanks for the reply Samsonite not sure what terminal but Arriving on a China air flight from Ankorage Alaska and then on to Manila. The return is China airlines Manila to Teipei to Ankorage to JFK so from your comments I expect I would be using the new terminal both ways. Not sure I'll go this route just yet price is good but a lot of flights and stops 4 flights in each each direction and no miles for my frequent flyer accounts .

I flew China Air onve when United fucked up my connection in LAX.

The flight to Teipei was fine, food was good etc. Had to spend the night in Teipei and that really sucked, getting out of the airport was a huge pain in the ass. Spent the night at a hotel only a couple miles away, way overpriced and no women to be found.

I should have ventured into the city, too tired and an early flight to BKK so just went to bed.

I flew China Airlines last year R/T LAX-Taipei-BKK. It was OK, but not great. Microwaved Chinese food isn't quite as tasty as the real stuff in a restaurant, but there was enough of it to fill you up. The cabin staff were quite good and very attentive, although I slept a goodly portion of the LA-Taipei legs (13+ hours).

OTOH, I flew Korean Air twice last year to BKK, once business class and once coach, and I think they're one of the best airlines I've ever flown. Coach was plenty comfortable and the food was excellent, but business class felt like heaven! I'm going back in November for 16 days and it will be on Korean Air; business class if I can afford it, coach if I can't, and booked through Delta so I can rack up some more transoceanic frequent flyer miles with them.

I have flown China Air a few times now, and have booked them for another trip in September.

The seats ARE very cramped, unless you get lucky and get in a row with leg-room.

This may be a reason to fly the other carrier.

The CA food is not so bad. Better than any I've had on U.S. flights.

The sexy cabin attendants will give you all the beer you want too.
