When we make the move in two years, I plan on a initial short term lease with a detached rental house. I personally don't like condo, apartment living. Your at the mercy of Thai management and possible obnoxious neighbors living next door.

A friend of mine owns a bungalow out of town, it's past Nong Nooch behind the ice making plant.

It's a beautiful place and behind the house he has kennels were he breeds attack dogs for the army, police etc.

It is absolutely spotless, but he has Thai neighbors, they are lovely people with an equally lovely house, but they leave there rubbish outside just like you see in the shanty towns, they seem oblivious to it as though it is meant to be there!!

Big D: do you think most of the neighbors you will encounter will be as considerate as you are?

I figure 10 rai of land with a house planted dead center will keep my neighbors far enough away. :chogdee2 The 10 foot wall will help also. :nod

A small question about ViewTalay please:

How far exactly is the View Talay 2 from Jontien Beach ?

I found a few maps like these ones, but no distances...

Map 1 - General

Map 2 - Jontien

Some advertisments say 200 meters, but from photos on this site

I thing there is already 200 meters from the building to the View Talay exit !

Can someone be a litle more precise ?

Thanks

About 5 minute walk. But exactly more, than 200 meter.

How do you manage the ownership of the land ?

As the lessee, I control what happens on the property. I figure a 30 year lease should see me into the grave as I'm 58.

Gabor,

A simple question: You say many of the condos are or sale "for company name." Exactly what does that mean? Has the condo complex already used up its 49 percent allocation of farang owners?

Yes that's exactly what it means. Foreigners cannot own the condominium if it is not previously owned by a farrang already once the 49% is filled up. This is why some farrangs will take up a company to "own" a condo, same like most farrangs "own" houses and land in Thailand.

I have seen 300 metres advertised but I do not walk as fast as Gabor. It takes me about 10 minutes. Now, when I have my Thai wife with me and my young daughter, half thai, they both think that walking 300 metres is the same as receiving capital punishment. So we jump a baht bus outside VT2. But if I told the missus that there was a card game going on the beach she would run there in 4 minutes. You gotta luv them :puke
