Fortuna Hotel..Soi 5 Bangkok

Recommended Posts

Booked for 2 nights in November...2000 baht per night for a deluxe room... before flying to Udon Thani......looked on the review and the last one was 2003.

The website looks ok and the area is good ........BUT has anybody stayed there recently, that can give me an update to the state of the hotel.

Cheers lads

I looked in on the hotel in July just for personal reference to see what it was like. I was not impressed at all. Hallways and rooms looked worn down. Didn't like the smell and everything seemed very dark. Definitely not worth 2000 baht in my opinion. It was about on par with the Manhatten on Soi 15, maybe a little more worn. The Magestic and Grand President are far superior and proabbly a lot cheaper. Just my opinion though.

Hi Millwall,

I concur with the previous poster - musty, old, worn - no too pleasant a place to stay - but OK if there is nowhere else.

On the up side - Excellent location - just next to Gullivers, Foodland and not too far to Soi 7, Nana and the Sky Train.

2k Baht seems a bit steep and maybe better quality for the same price elsewhere or same quality for less .... BUT, the location is great!

Cheers,

C

I have stayed there when all the other places were booked up.

Its a great location

My room was small but just ok 1200 baht. The problem was that the hot water did not work they offerd to change me but i only stayed 2 nights. Its girl friendly ok

2 warnings they did try to charge me for telephone use,I did not use it and when i said so they said ok,just trying it on i guess.

I took a load of wash to the laundry opposite the hotel all smiles one girl wrote what i had on a list and another girl grabbed it and rushed across the road to where they had the machines.the cashier showed me the list 1500 baht NO way ,its 200 in pattaya.

so i shot across the road to get my wash before it was put in the machine the girl was franticly trying to shove it all in a machine and I am trying to pull it out before she can close it up,once its going I will have to pay the 1500.So I finally get it away from her

and go back to the shop to have it out with the girl there,Oh ok 1000 no, 800 no,700

no.650 oh ok then I did need some clean clothes and it did come back clean so be carefull.

gone for the Swiss Grottino Residence...Soi 19....very prompt reply and raving reviews...!!!

Was in Grottino at the beginning of the month. It's OK, new, Scandinavian minimum-ist, room just big enough for two, bed firm (nearly too hard). It's not a hotel it's, as they say, a residence, so you don't get help getting your bags up - the manager saw my 6 bags and didn't offer to help. It has an unmarked door (my TGF suggested they were avoiding taxes) next to their restaurant down a side soi by the Family Mart. It costs 1,700 a night with no breakfast. Very Germanic. There are better deals.

Heard good reviews about Grottino but never stayesd theree myself or viewed the rooms. I have friends that stay at the Magestic Suites and they love it.. Rooms very clean but small. they are very girl friendly.

I've stayed at the Grand President on soi 11 many times and enjoyed it though the rooms are getting a little worn. They are remodelling many of them though. There is also a new hotel on Soi 11 - the Grand Business Inn just a few metres from Sukhumvit the website is http://www.awgroup.com/gbi/room.htm. Looks good from the outside and from the pictures.

These are all in the same price ballpark you are looking at if you are niot satisfied with teh Grottino.

I've stayed at Grottino as above, Nana for 5 months (you'll know it!) and many other times till they annoyed me over immediate payment of a 22 baht phone call, Jasmine soi 23 is swish 3,000 baht, Regency Park soi 22 nice 1,100 baht via internet (my regular place now but they're building next door at the moment so I went to Grottino). Majestic and Dynasty are well liked but I thought Dynasty rooms were a bit dark with all the dark wood. Honey on 19 has rather tatty rooms in spite of the nice entrance. You'll probably be quite happy at Grottino if you're not expecting too much, which I was.
