Thinking of booking up at the Marriott for next Summer, staying just under 4 weeks. I know its abit pricey but I do alot of my drinking around soipattayaland so I thought this year I will stay in a top hotel near by.

 

Do u think they would offer me a reduced price due to the length of my stay?

 

Also what r people's thoughts on the marriott?

Your best chance of getting a good rate with the Marriott in Pattaya is to stay a few days, smile, and then say, "if I stay XX longer, how much?"

 

They may ask you if you're interested in buying one of their ridicuous hotel 'time shares' in Phuket. Say yes, get the deal, ignore the spiel, and life is good.

sometimes the best rate at the marriot is directly with the hotels website, sometimes with a discount travel agent. I would suggest checking both several times over a period of time. The best rate I have ever gotten at the marriot pattaya was $80 prepaid including tax and service. That was directly thru the hotels website prepaying with a visa card only. Another time I saw a similiar deal but prepaying with an american express card. I have gotten the hard rock thru booking agents for^$65 us when the htoel wasn't willing to go lower than $110. A dofferent time I got the hard rock fo $65 directly with them. So go figure.

just on the off chance I looked on www.airlinenetwork.co.uk for hotels in Pattaya.

 

I found some great deals for next Summer - will prob be some for other times during the year but never checked, the dusit was only £420 for 20 nights, the Marriott was only £970 for 20 nights.

I think you will be glad you stayed there. Word is that if you book a double through the Marriott the chances of getting asked for some joiner fee are greatly reduced or eliminated. I am considering a stay there myself.

I stayed there last November and two years before that. Booked a double and no joiner fee but some of the girls at the desk don't like mongers. They walk you to your room and ask if you're there on business...and then the smile disappears.

 

Minor inconvenience though. Unless you go by the elevator on the south side you don't even have to have the girl leave an id. Try to skip the breakfasts there though or negotiate them out of the room price. It's really good but at western rates ($12 - 15 US). Shennanigans is right next door and you can get a great breakfast there.

From what I have read on this board the Dusit tries to rip off tourists with a "Joiner FEE"...I did stay at the Marriott and I was never charged a joiner fee. I did use the back entrance(Beach Road) and the side entrance(Mall) to get to my room bypassing the front desk a lot...Breakfast was in my room if the girl was with me, so no walk to shame...

 

Any hotel that charges me a joiner fee will have me pack my bags instantly and move~!!! This is a rip off tactic, no one should ever accept...

When I book the room do I need to ask for a double bed and if I did'nt would they try and stick us in a room with 2 single beds in?

Do you mean the location of the room by any chance? Otherwise, if you follow the previous poster's advice and use the other two entrances and do not pass the front desk you should be okay.

that is the cheapest cost I have ever seen for the marriott. Good deal if you can get it. Best deal I have ever seen is the JW marriot in phuket. 20 nights for 36000 baht thru priceline. Shangrala in bangkok can sometimes be gotten on priceline for 2800 baht. not a bad porice for that hotel either.

Normaly they don't ask for a joiner fee when you check in with the girl you will be staying with. Only when you bringe a "strange" girl in every night they will charge this ridiculous fee.

Lets get this right once and for all. There are no joiner fees. You pay for a room, not per person.

 

The Marriott is great and if your budget allows I'd stay there. Breakfast is top notch but pricy if not included (circa Bt650++ each per day). The pool is great and just remoddled. I'd try to get it included.

There are different quality rooms. I think I paid around 3000B for a 'Garden Room'. Delux Sea View rooms are a lot more expensive. They don't just have a balcony they have a porch bigger than a garden room overlooking the sea.

 

One night of about 25 I had to have a girl sign in. That was when I was staying in a Delux Seaview room and had to take the elevaztor up. There was a guard at the elevator. Other than that I used the front main enterance, the back enterance from Beach Road and the side enterance from the RG mall without being stopped.

 

NEVER PAID A JOINER FEE !! even when I brought 2 back.

Ok, I stumbled across my bill from last year at the Marriott at this time. 3,250 B a day plus vat etc for a garden room.

Makavelli, I hope I can answer your questions...

 

The room I stayed in April 2005 was a 2nd floor garden room...ask for a swimming pool view and it looks out into the swimming pool and bar...Nice view...

The seaview is the wing facing the back of the hotel that faces beach road...I for one didn't want to pay extra when the pool view was nice anyway..

 

As far as where to stay, I chose a 2nd floor room on the wing that was right beside the mall...what was nice about this was I could bring a girl/girls back to my room from either the mall side entrance to the hotel or the back(Beach road) entrance and avoid the walk of shame and the front desk sala...

 

I have to say the buffet at the Marriott is very good. It makes the Lek hotel buffet seem inadequate. The fruits offered alone were very fresh and try the dragon fruit which is very delicious. The buffet offered a luncheon section with salads, meats, omelettes, etc. Top notch food only a multinational hotel chain can offer...

 

Hope this helps you...Also try booking through their website, as they have offers for senior citizens, government/military discounts and AAA members...One last recommendation also check to see if they offer a weekend break rate or similar promotional rates as these are usually several dollars below the rack rates.

I have yet to see a map of the buildings layout of the Pattaya Marriott. I know it is next to the RG Mall, but I thought the mall separated it from Beach road. If you have a link to the hotel layout please post it if possible.

 

BTW, did they offer you several different hotel wings on check in, or did you specify that particular wing? Thanks for the help!

By the way, the marriott website is NOT intelligent. By this I mean the following:

 

If the weekend has a Visa package for say $100 per day including breakfast but you want to stay 4 days, it may say that the rate will change from the weekend rate to the daily weekday rate but it will not offer the discounted Visa rate.

 

Its a bit of a fuck on for a long stay but you might want to start out checking the weekends. Put the data in Excel and then do the weekdays and total stay. then phone Marriott reservations (usually very helpful) and if they cannot beat the dea, state that certain offers are available which the website does not show.

 

After that, ask for the email address and telephone number of the hotel in question. Email, wait a day and phone them. Best to get the Manager's email address as well for follow up.

 

Failing all of that, get someone on the ground to go round ~!

I see by your post that you went for the Royal Twins Palace suite at 2100 baht per night with the 350 baht membership fee. Was it really nearly as good as the Marriott. One of the things I think you are getting besides the great pool at the marriott is the quality food on premises that is otherwise not available at a 1500 baht hotel. Just my 2 cents.

Deluxe Garden view = £972 for 20 nights

I dont know which one to book. I am staying with the wife so I obviously want a double bed and not two singles, do both of these types of rooms have doubles beds or do some of them 2 singles, anyone know?
