Hi people, am new to the forum and having fun reading all of the interesting posts. Am hoping to go to LOS early next year, march or april time with a few friends so I may be asking a few questions soon :3some First one, would it be best to book my flight and hotel months in advance or leave it till the last minute in the hope of getting a cheaper deal? Also, mates being generally unreliable as they are, is pattaya/bangkok a good place to visit on your own?

Cheers for any replys

Join the member section. Good idea to book your airfare a few months ahead and at least one or two nights at a hotel. BKK and Pattaya are safe places to visit. Welcome aboard.

If I buy my ticket early, they will have a promotion at a much lower price a few weeks later. If I wait, they are fully booked or I have to buy one of the last overpriced tickets. So I guess it's kind of a game of chance.

Look for promotions and if you think it's reasonable, buy it. One time you will be lucky, the other time you will be screwed.

Going with mates? I think that totally depends on what kind of person you are and what you like. If you like to be in company of people you know very well I guess it's an advantage to come with your trusted friends.

If you like to be in company of a mate once in a while, you can go to a places like FLB, get to know some people and spend time with them when it suites you.

If you want total freedom, you go alone.

I like the last option the best. I like to go alone. I think it has many advantages and gives the least hassle. But, like I said, it depends on your personality.

I think you should reconsider if you really want to go to LOS.

It's a drug, it's like an obsessive amorousness.

I adapted a beautiful piece of literature by Graham Greene, from his novel The Quiet American. (it's originally about Vietnam)

For me it's says everything:

“I can't say what made me fall in love with Thailand - that a woman's voice can drug you; that everything is so intense. The colours, the taste, even the rain. Nothing like the filthy rain back home.

They say whatever you're looking for, you will find here.

They say you come to Thailand and you understand a lot in a few minutes, but the rest... has got to be lived.

The smell: that's the first thing that hits you, promising everything in exchange for your soul. And the heat. Your shirt is straightaway a rag. You can hardly remember your name, or what you came to escape from.

But at night, there's a breeze. The sea is beautiful. You could be forgiven for thinking there is no exertion; that live is a celebration; that only pleasure matters. A bar, a drink, or the touch of a girl who might tell you she loves you. And then, something happens, as you knew it would. And nothing can ever be the same again.”

Freely after Graham Greene – The Quiet American.

Welcome Ripple. Because I always go in peak season, Christmas & New Year I have to book early otherwise I cannot get a flight. At least 3 months before travelling. Never any specials on but I use a travel agent who heavily discounts her commission thus saving me a few bucks. You could check this out.

Have a great trip and as for travelling alone you will always be able to meet somebody you like if you try. Me personally, I prefer to travel with somebody.
