Bangkok - Bangkok will next year host the 2nd World Toilet Expo & Forum, deemed the "prime mover" in global toilet technology events, organisers said on Monday.

"We hope the event will be a catalyst and facilitate Thailand towards the progressive development and standardisation of public toilet services," said Jack Sim, founder of the World Toilet Organisation (WTO), not to be confused with the World Trade Organisation or the World Tourism Organisation.

The WTO, launched by Sim in 2001, has selected Bangkok for its 2nd exhibition in the latest toilet technology and forum on toilet culture to be held on November 16 to 18, 2006, at the IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Centre.

Thai Deputy Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the toilet expo would boost Thailand's image and enhance the country's role as "the venue of choice for international conferences."

"Governments everywhere realise that toilets are the competitive edge of the nation," Singaporean Sim told a press conference.

"People who are healthy produce more," he expounded. "If you have better toilets you will have more tourists," the WTO chief added.

The 1st World Toilet Expo was held in May, this year, in Shanghai, China, drawing 250 participants from 20 countries.
