In my opinion EVA - no question.

Thai air used to be a great airline but has gone very much downhill over the last 5 years.

See if you can get a quote for the Evergreen Deluxe class as its often only £60 or so more (not always) and is well worth the money.

Eva has new stock and better in flight entertainment.

Thai has better food & service and (for me) far better timings.

I’ve flown both like them both (they land at BKK whats not to like) not much to chose between them. If price is the same I go with the one with better timings for me. But as they say Up too you!

Monty - agree, its all about personal preferences

My own opinion is that EVA has better service - though not to the standard Thai had 5 years or so ago. Maybe I have just had tired crew etc but the last few i flew certainly wern't what thye used to be.

Both EVA and Thai leave LHR at 21.30 but coming back EVA is 1pm while Thai is about midnite.

Some will prefer the extra day in BKK but personally I prefer the daytime flight back as I live close to heathrow and am back at 19.15 whcih means a good night sleep. That way I can stay an extra "day" in effect as I dont need recovery time - thai arrives LHR about 7am

well id agree with everybody else so far! im going with thai in 7 weeks time, i think the food is slightly better on thai, but the entertainment is miles better on eva! if you plan on going over frequently join the frequent flyes club on whichever air-line you join! personally i think you can accrue more mileage with eva-air as you normally get 100% mileage accrual with most tickets whereas with thai you only get 50% mileage with the cheaper V and W type tickets!

thx all, i've seen a thai flight departing 1230 on may 29 arriving at 0605? which i'd prefer, returning jun 17@1225 arriving at 1830. journey times also seem to be the same. i believe the evening flight from lhr makes a stop en-route for refuelling!

Deadman - if you want my advice get the 9.30 at night flight. that way you will not only sleep but arrive at around 2.30 pm (usually a little early arriving). Theres not much to do in thailand at 7 in the morning. Also, if you arrive at 6am it will be midnite for your body clock and u will be knackered.

If you are staying in bkk on arrival a 3 pm arrival gives plenty of time for a trip to hotel, shower and hit the nightlife for 7pm.

Deadman, the flights you are using are the ones I usually use. It is great arriving early morning and departiong at mid day for return journey. Who wants to wait until midnight for a flight when yoiu have to be out of hotel by mid day.

I go out in March but this time on evening flight as I have things to do during the day but I return on good friday on mid day flight.

43 days and I am in

one more question, which do you think has better legroom in basic economy? i tend to go to sleep on all my flights to LOS. This will be my 5th trip in less than 18 months. (my proposed wedding on hold til late december/early january 07 so why not have one more trip!!!)

I agree witu Richerts comment about the return time but we will have to agree to disagree on the flight out.

This is, of course, entirely down to personal choice as neither is "better". I usually get around 7 hours sleep on the outbound nite flight but have never found a way to sleep properly on the mid-day ones.

I like the Thai 12.30 flight out as I can finish work at 7am and be in LHR by 10 to check in. Then on the way back if I get the 12.30 from BKK I can be back in my flat for about 20.30 ready for a 7am start. I don’t like to waste time when I could be in LOS maximises my holiday time and no hanging about all day when I could be travelling.

Currently in Hua Hin

I flew out last week Eva economy, no problems, in fact the best economy experience I have had with any airline.

I am 6 foot 17 stone but seat was fine, and this after last time flying Premium Laurel. Nice salmon meal on flight.

Someone posted about the entertainment boxes being under 3 of the 4 aisle seat rows stopping you stretching your legs fully out.

However they didn't want to share this info with you guys, and I am not either  however, I will give you a clue

Just to recap with Eva, if flying on the 777ER from LHR then fly economy, other destinations/aircraft probably go for Evergreen Deluxe, unless you have money Mak Mak
