Aging in Pattaya

Recommended Posts

Like many, I hope to retire to Pattaya in the next few years. I was wondering on what peoples experiences are regarding getting older there. Say you are 60 or 70 or even more. The mongering days are eventually over, but you love the climate, the food, the beaches etc. Is it possible to hire full time housekeepers, maids, are there retirement (old age) facilities etc. I guess once I move I have no intention of leaving. I may of course move somewhere quieter within LOS but the overall question remains the same.

I remember seeing a year or so ago a brochure for a new assisted living old geezer home. I'm not sure but Soi7 may have checked it out already, just joking Soi7.

This geezer has already started medical preparations for the big move and it saved my life as I found out I had killer skin cancer. It was caught early and so far no problems. I started having all my major body systems checked out as I'd rather have major medical care done in the US.

Care givers are widely available. Just check any bar on soi 7 & 8. ;) Competent nurses can be hired at a reasonable rate if needed. I sometimes see this old geezer using a walker with oxygen tank with a 20 something walking beside him. He always has a big grin on his face. Few years from now, that will be me.

What about the bars on Soi 6? Don't forget these!!!

I am 65 and have moved here, partly BECAUSE oft he medical treatment. While the U.S. has first class medical facilities, I could not afford to pay for them, and the average facility sucks.

You can get the equivalent Medicare coverage here for about $100 per month that will give you first class coverage at top hospital's here.

I think medical care here is first class and very affordable.

keep in mind that College graduates will often earn just $160.00 a month so that should give you an idea of what the price of labor is. My Thai girlfriend will squat in the middle of the bathroom floor (less than four feet by five) to do laundry by hand in a plastic tub. She cleans the wax out of my ears often, cuts both my toenails and fingernails, massages my back while also walking up and down my lower spine (which is where my back troubles are), cleans the place upon first waking up, cooks excellent Thai meals once or twice a day, does the dishes (without ever asking for help), and cuts my hair to boot. She is also a competent motorbike driver. Also, if we are carrying bags of stuff we have just bought throughout a store or down the street, she thinks it's perfectly all right for her to be my pack animal instead of my being hers.

Name one American girl who is willing to do all of this? As already mentioned here in the posts, medical care here is much cheaper than it is in the U.S. And one isn't always waiting in these long lines to get it. This is definitely a good place to get old in.

Well Jack. You appear to have got a good one there. I don't know about American females, but I am certain you would not get an English woman to care for you in the same way that you are being cared for. The very best of everything to you.
