Homeowners Insurance

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any first hand experience with having insurance for the real estate and personal property you own? I'm considering purchasing either a home or condo but I'm concerned about some kind of worse case scenario where you could have property damage and/or loss of personal effects. It could be expensive and a real setback financially if you don't have anything in place. Thanks.

Drilldr.

A lot of guys do not insure their property but I do not want to take the risk. I am a Insurance Broker and have seen to often what a fire or major storm can do.

I use QBE Thailand to insure a house and Condo. They have their HO in Bangkok and a Branch Office in Pattaya. They are not the cheapest but do offer a good cover and their policies for farangs have English clauses attached so that you can see what your insured for. If you contact the HO they will have somebody who can respond in English.

QBE are an Australian Insurer.

With a Condo they come as a shell with no fittings so in the event of a claim the Managements policy will only restore it to the original condition. You will have to put a sum insured on the fit out then add your furnishings, personal effects etc. Just make it clear that you are also covering the fitout, floor tiles, bathrooms, kitchens, Air/Con etc so there are no arguments later.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Shit Happens! (Love your board name BTW!) I will look into this as I just have a very bad feeling what a water damage or fire scenario would do to ruin those rosey retirement plans.
