Airline Prices Sky High

Recommended Posts

Checking on flights this summer out of the Twin Cites in the USA and finding they are almost double what they were last year. Last year could get round trip for around 32,000 to 36,000 baht. Now it looks like anywhere from 68,000 to 80,000 baht. Are they that expensive elsewhere? With prices that high the mongering trips will have to be curtailed.

Travel within US and flying out of US will be highest from May 30-Sept 5 (labor day weekend) as this is the prime travel summer season . Kids out of school, summer vacation for everyone, etc. Low prices during this time rare, except an occasional sale but dont count on this as these seats sell out within 24hrs of advertising.

Best to reschedule after Sept., if not then must pay the higher cost.

Summer (i.e. July August) is always expensive due to kids school holidays. There seems to be no difference this year compared to last.

It aslo depends on when you are LOOKING as well as when you are travelling. If you booked in in November - January there were plenty of good deals around for the summer months. Now we are in the period when seats are in shorter supply so prices go up. They will come down again closer to the time if seats are still available.

Ask if the ticket price include the extra fuel charge and taxes, an one month ticket from Copenhagen is around 30500 baht and that's the price they tell you, efter fuel charge and taxes it's 36500!

Oh, dont forget future air prices will only go up as the price of jet fuel have double and tripled since last year. Just look at how much more you are paying for gas at the pump. :eyecrazy

You Yankees make me laugh when you mention gas !!

Whats gas at the pump station in the states $2 or $2.50 ??

Here in the shit hole of the uk where I live its currently the equivalent of $7 a gallon plus.

"Ask if the ticket price include the extra fuel charge and taxes"

Yes, it's getting to be quite a little scam with many of the asian airlines it seems.

My April & June trip are with Cathay Pacific out of LAX and the prices were quoted as $734 US but with the tax and fuel surcharge it rolls in at a total of $908! Still a good price for CX, but $174 includes over $100 going to the airline, not security charges.

Replying to the original posters question:

I locked in a RT out of MSP with Korean Air for Sept and Nov at $1060. Certainly a fair bit more than recent years, but with UA and NWA asking $1450+ I'll opt for anything else. Two stops: at ORD and Seoul. Korean Air isn't my favorite, but better than any American airline sad to say.

My ticket from Chicago to Bangkok (on Korea Air) is $905. They were on sale, however. Still, using Expedia (I think) I found a non-sale price for $840. However, that was on different carriers (so FF miles split up) and more stops and layovers. I also found by adjusting your departure dates on both ends could make a big difference in price. Generally, Tue-Thu give the best prices. BTW, as for Fuel surcharges, get use to it...

I've also heard the prices are quite high now everywhere for LOS trips, I must have gotten lucky as I purchased my ticket around the end of February for $695 on JAL.

That was unexpected, cause I just had returned home on February 7th. Guess I just can't stay away. :D :grin-jump

Does someone have good advice (airlines/websites) for flights at decent prices from Paris end-april/beginning-may for a 3 month stay? My usual - opodo.fr - shows a big hike compared with my ticket price in february.
