Recommendation on Hotel at Singapore

Recommended Posts

I will be making a stop over at Singapore towards the end of May. As I am flying with Singapore Airlines, they are offering discount rates for hotels.

I need recommendation for the better hotel from the list. Please note that I will be with a significant other so no hobbying there. Just like to stay at a nice place that is convenient for sightseeing.

1. Amara

2. Carlton

3. Crown at Orchard

4. The Elizabeth

5. Grand Copthorne Waterfront

6. Grand Plaza Parkroyal

7. Orchard

8. Orchard Parade

9. York

I have stayed at the Ochard Hotel many times, very nice Hotel at the end of Orchard road, you can get the Singapore stopover bus (hop on hop off free if you have flown with Singapore Airlines otherwise about two dollars) from outside and there are numerouse shopping malls within walking distance and the MRT(Orchard) is about a five minute walk.

I've also stayed at the Orchard Hotel, and would recommend it. Rooms are small, but nicely appointed. Good location, very close to Thai Embassy makes it good for a visa run. Across from Orchard Towers made it very good for mongering. I booked via Priceline.com in Feb 05, and paid about $55 USD.

If you have the time (and patience) log in to www.asiarooms.com singapore site. They have reviews of most of the hotels. Value for money, location etc. the Phoenix Hotel would probably suit you. Not on your list though !!

When in Singapore and with a "significant other", I can recommend the Shangri-La. Excellent 5 star hotel, located just up a small side road to Orchard Road. Luxery, quiet setting and still just 5 minutes walk from Orchard Road.

Truth is Sgn sights are scatter thru the city (which is not that big to begin with)so booking hotel anywhere in the city is fine. The train/bus system is very good and not too expensive and this will take you anywhere in the city.

So all you need to do is check on a hotel in your price range and just ask if it is near a train station or bus stop.

We've stayed at the York a couple of times.. flying there on Saturday.. its on Scott's road .. very close to Orchard road.. the rooms are ok, the pool doesnt get a lot of the sun because of the high rises, but the far east plaza next door has a good food hall.

There are no safes in the room, use the hotels safety deposit boxes but its ok..
