Displayed prices are for multiple nights. Check the site for price per night. I see hostels starting at 200b/day and hotels from 500b/day on agoda.

Why is it during low season the prices seem higher to me? It's also difficult to find a room! Maybe I'm just not calling the right places. I would have liked to stay at Bella Villa Prima, but they say they only have deluxe room for 1800 baht/night! Pass. I wrote to the BJ Holiday Lodge and they see to have no rooms under 1000 baht anymore. Any recommendations for quiet area like those two and the cleanliness for under 1000 B ?

Also, does anyone have contact info for Nana Tai Mansion down from NEP in BKK? I stayed there last trip and it wasn't too bad for 800baht. Better than the Nana Hotel, but also a decent walk to the plaza.

In the low season just walk up to your fav. hotel and ask for a best rate. If you are staying for 2wks+ you can negotiate for a lower rate. Hotels love knowing that they have a room booked long term when times are tough. Sometimes this can be negotiated in advance (ie if you are staying for 3 mo. i would work that situation to your advantage by email prior to arrival). If you are staying the standard tourist

In low season (Apr-early Nov) I only reserve the first night or two ahead of time - then there plenty of options if you are willing to walk in (and last seasons bargain may not be the best this year). During high season I would have a room booked for the entire stay though. But this has been said repeatedly on this board.

One of my favorites in Pattaya is the Welcome Plaza Hotel. Big pool, close to everything (the #1 reason I like it), excellent price (#2 reason), big rooms with A/C, but the rooms are older. I've gotten walk-in rates of 700 B/night - less if you have a long stay. The web site says 850, but I have always gotten less. It is a great "base of operations" for Pattaya. Not all agree with me, but that's OK - If they did, the place would be always be booked up at a higher rate.

As for BKK it is difficult to find a good room under 1000 Baht, without it being a dump or far from the action. Even the Nana is 1200+. One of the reasons I only spend a minimum of time there.

Zeus

PS In general hotels have seen a 100 - 200 Baht / night increase over that past two years. Before that rates were fairly stable. I guess it is economics - they will charge what the market will bear.

I always stay at Sunshine Vista which is one street behind Bella Vista Prima, so if you like that area, you're practically in the same exact place.

Sunshine Vista Serviced Apartments

They're located on quiet Soi 3, a 5 minute walk up the hill to Big C/2nd Rd. (also a 7-11 and many small beer bars for that last stop before returning to the room) or a 5 min. walk down the hill to Beach Rd. It's right behind the hospital in case of any medical emergencies. There are also two inexpensive laundries across the street where I drop off my clothes ... cheaper than going through the hotel service. I've stayed there 4 times, enjoy it and have never had any problems. They have a free breakfast but it's marginal (I'm usually not up in time to catch it anyway). There is an internet cafe at the end of the lobby. They have in-room safes and are guest friendly. I really like the rooftop pool w/swim up bar. It may not be quite as nice as BVP, but cheaper and still nice enough. Plenty adequate.

During the low season (right now) they are running a special, stay 7 days and only pay for 6 days or stay 14 days and only pay for 12 days.

The only problem I have with them is you have to wire your deposit so I book my reservations on-line through Sawadee.com and put it on my credit card.

Sawadee.com

Hope this helps.

In general the hotel prices are lower now, but thais outside the hotel business at least have a tendency to increase prices if the demand is lower, that way trying to make the same money from fewer customers. :D

There are alot of hotel deals around stay 14 pay for 10 during low season. Walk in and ask to speak to the manager if you are staying for more then 14 nights. He has the authority to offer discounts. Desk clerks don't.

Thanks guys, I'll take all the advice and put it to good use. I am partial to the BVP just because I need a nice place for the first night or two, then my room doesn't have to be as nice, but still like their general location.

I'll check out the Sunshine Vista when I get there and see if I can work something out with them in person.

Ignore all the fucking idiots that talk about walking up and getting a room.

For the One hundredth time THERE IS NO LOW SEASON FOR HOTELS!!!!! Last year in august I was in pattaya and the beer bars were dead. No customers, but the hotels were full. Much too the surprise of the fucking idiots there are a large number of family tourists and chinese and japanese tourists that come to pattaya. Go to www.latestays.com and look at how many hotels have sold out nights. In The month of July the Majestic Grande in BKK has something like 8 or 9 days when they are sold out. they have 251 rooms. If you try to book a 14 night stay there you will be told they are sold out even thought for the 14 night you want there is only 2 night when the are full.

Can you walk up and get a room? sure. can you walk up and get a room for 10 days or 14 days? not likely and not at a good price I have seen at least 100 guys walking up to the counter of the dynasty, nana plaza, majestic suites, worburi, bel air princess, westin grande, sheraton grande, sandy springs, lek hotel, residence gardens, mariott, hard rock, etc etc. they ask for a room for 4 days or 5 days only to be told no rooms maybe for one night. DO YOU REALLY WANT TO SPEND YOUR TIME SLUPPING FROM ONE HOTEL TO THE NEXT TO FIND A ROOM? and then moving every 3 to 5 days becuase they don't have rooms?

BTW I have had a time in July when a pattaya travel agent could not get me a room in bangkok near nana. There are weekend where ex pats fly down from udon thani or in from indonesia or malaysia for 3 days. weekend in bkk can get pretty full at the hotels. Even when the bars are slow. I wound up at nana thai mansion. which is not horrible but is right next to the klong and the smell outisde can get pretty bad and it is a long way down. The upside is there is plenty of parking if you are driving.

worburi is www.woraburi.com (66)2-656-7236 or (66)2-656-7071. on nana soi

swiss grottino is www.grottino.com 66 2253-6023 they are down by westin grande

in pattaya sandy springs is 3841-4752 www.sandyspringhotel.com

If you still can't find a place I also have a place for 1100 baht up on soi 3. It is pretty nice and not that far. I just can't find the biz card tonight but I should have tommorrow.

hey try,

Sorry it is a soi 1 hotel. it is the euro park hotel. Most people think it is condos so they don't get much walk in traffic. phone 02-254-1074 or 02-255-4224 ext 5 they have large rooms with marble floors. When iIhave not been able to get a room anywhere else they have had a room. They are better than nana thai mansion and the cost was 1000 baht a night last year. It is a ways down the soi but still closer to nana than the mansion. Soi 1 is on the opposite side of suk from nana . the actual address is 27 sukomvit soi 1 bangkok 10110. good luck.

Cowboy you are right on with recommendations to newbies to book hotels before they get to LOS....

Too many mistakes are made, thinking you can walk up and book a hotel with low season...Keep in mind locals as well as ex-pats fly or drive in for a weekend of sun and fun...Even nearby countries do a long weekend stay just to get out during summer season.

You do not want to start your holiday with little or no options to stay in, prices and hotel rooms that are left are usually the more expensive rooms...Try your luck and learn the hard way...

Well, I actually did get into a place through the sawadee.com website. Ended up booking in nana tai mansion(where I've stayed before) which isn't too bad, but there's definitely better. They have free tuk-tuk service to NEP every 5-10 minutes or so(it IS quite a long walk) and just look for their tuk-tuk when you are ready to come back, you can't miss it. Hours of operation are 8am-2am.

I ended up getting a single for 1050b/night. The rooms are nothing to write home about, and there is no safe in the room(but free at front desk), but I was just happy to finally get some sleep...right after my ST left at 8am and now I write this 7 1/2 hours later. I heard that today is some kind of holiday, Buddha day(?), so I might be bored, but there is always the parking lot at Nana! Pattaya is 48 hours away!

For guys who know enough to know where they want to be, I suggest just booking a room. If saving perhaps Bt100 per day for 2 weeks is important enough to start dragging your suitcase from hotel to hotel in 40c heat then so be it.

You are not wrong there mate, I have always stayed in the same place every visit to Pattaya and I do not have any intentions of changing right now.

They have always charged me exactly the same rate everytime I come.

They know how to look after and do the right thing by their regulars which is the way to run a business, that way when I come over in the quiet season they know they will get my business and a few mates that I put their way.

  • 5 weeks later...

Hi all,

Just a few comments on booking rooms - even in the low season.

Hotels offload their rooms to travel agents at discounted rates and the agents take the risk of filling them or not. If the agent has say 10-20 rooms - even if the rooms are empty the hotel RARELY re-sells them. My sister-in-law worked here in one of the bigger hotels and when occupancy rates dropped, it meant the hotel could arrange hotel staff holidays better and leave the agent's rooms empty.

As for smaller establishments like my own, repeat custom means that rooms fill up even in low season and it can be difficult to get a room at short notice.

Unless you know Pattaya well, my advice would be to book well in advance before arriving here. In addition to the agents taking rooms, there is also the possibility that an event or festival or whatever is on in town and then you really have to chase around if you haven't pre-booked. :chogdee2

And your not giving the name out because like me you have done it before and found they have no room next time you try to get in. :ang2
