How much help are the tourist police?

Recommended Posts

Well, Saturday was the second time a certain "fallen" mafia dude in Chonburi decided to come to my wife's families business and try to kill them. As in the first time, he was armed with a pistol. And as in the first time, my wife and two daughters were present also. Luckily, the children were next door at their cousins house playing.

But, also as in the first case, my wife was involved in the scuffle and was nearly killed. Her hands are swelled and her back is sore from attacking the guy. The wife, her sister, and her mother jumped on him getting the gun pointed away from anyone. The father then got the gun away from the guy. But not before a long struggle and many small injuries.

The Thai police came and just told him to be nice to us and to not come back again. This is exactly what the sad fucks told him the last time he came to try to kill them.

My fear is that my wife and children are going to be caught in the mix and killed. If this happens, you can all visit me in the pokey as I will kill that mother fucker with my bare hands. I got drunk Saturday and it took many people to keep me from going and killing him. Stupid ass me, the next day I realized I only have one bullet for my gun left.

My question is, do you think contacting the tourist police or the US Embassy would hel my situation any? This is definitely going to end in someone being shot to death and I do not want it to be my wife or children.

Any information or help would be greatly appreciated.

This guy has been 2 times to see your family and has not shot anyone yet, maybe he is bluffing. I mean if he really wanted to kill someone you would just go in and open fire wouldn't you, you would not wait for someone to take the gun off you.

The first time he shot a couple times in the air, and scared the kids into the house. Then wife's sister came out with my gun (I was in Australia) and had a standoff with the fucker.

This time, he no more than got the gun out of his pants and they jumped him. They knew that he always carries his gun, so when they saw him go for it they new to do something.

Bluffing or not, the fucker is not going to terrorize my family any longer. Even if I have to take care of it myself.

If it was me, I would just get some people, even the police to "have a word" Do you or your family not know any police in the area. Not the sort of thing you want to get involved in personally...........Thai jails are hell so I have been told.

I did have to call the Tourist police once last year and all I got was a busy signal but that was in Chiang Mai.

We have had many "words" with the police in our district. Problem is, they are still a little loyal to him as he used to be a very prominent mafia figure before his brother died a few years ago. And they do not want to piss off the rest of his family, who still have a lot of pull in Chonburi.

Ok I get you, sounds like a tough situation.....I know it sounds drastic but can you not relocate your family?.......better than risking life in jail. Or get someone from outside the area to deal with the problem.

Relocate and abandon a 5 million baht home and land? Brand new home to boot? Why should I leave? I have something in the works, but it goes against my better judgement.

I don't really see how the tourist police can help in this situation. It's more a question of connections, if you know somebody really important ask him/her to contact the local police boss.

The problem is really finding someone with more "pull" than the local police boss. That's why I thought if tourist police got involved it might scare them a little to have some attention thrown at their corrupt department.

Just be careful, it's very easy to arrange that a farang is deported from Thailand. I know a danish guy who was conned by his TGF for 10,000,000 baht. She asked her ex-husband who was a police captain or major and next time he returned to Thailand he was stopped and told he could never enter Thailand again.

It doesn't matter where the important person lives, he/she will know who to contact to arrange it.

the US Embassy

Now that might be helpfull in Thailand <grin :D

Take care that you don,t end up in jail over the fucker.

Maybe you,or much better, your family should hire somebody to solve the problem for once and for all, probably the best and most common thing to do.

I have been here 6 years mate. I have been dealing with this type of shit for a while. But before the wife's sister and him parted ways (they were a couple) we never had anyone coming to our place pointing guns.

I know how sensitive it is when dealing inside these little webs of deception. That's why I am trying to move under the radar.

Sounds like a bloody horrible situation.........how about relocating the sister or is that a no go? I think discression is the key

Relocating the sister would help a little. But I think he wants our business and our land. Which his stupid ass sold to us dirt cheap cause he needed the money. Now he wants to buy it back for the same price after we developed it and built the house and landscaped. :cussing

No ideas, other than going to see a solicitor, and asking if there is anything equivalent to a 'restraining order' that your sister-in-law could swear. It might save her life! :cussing

It sounds like you have tried the legitimate channels.

Ever considered the 'Dark Side of the Force'........? Or don't want to go there?

Sounds like typical lazy Thai logic. No reasoning with people like that. :beer :D 2guns

Have you thought about contacting the local English language newspapers (Pattaya Mail, Pattaya People Weekly etc)? A bit of adverse publicity for the Police might just be what's needed to get them to take this matter seriously.

You know the sort of thing. - "Armed maniac threatens family with gun. Police just slap him on the wrist and tell him to be a good boy"

First of all let me say you have my sympathy and I wish you and your family well, but really you need to take a step back and make an intelligent, well thought through and measured response rather than reacting like a brainless gung-ho, hot-headed idiot and picking up your own gun.

All too often this sort of knee-jerk reaction just adds to the problem rather than proffering a solution.

At the end of the day it is the safety of your family that is of prime importance and although the solution may make you feel weak and leave a bad taste in your mouth, it is better that your family are still alive and that you are able to enjoy the rest of your life with them.

If you go after this thug with violence in mind, whether directly or indirectly chances are it will come back to bite you in a big way. Whether that be you getting shot or injured yourself or a tit for tat retaliation attack on you or your family or simply ending up a convicted murderer in a squalid Thai prision for the rest of your life, it's just not a rosy outlook.

So firstly think before you act/speak and getting drunk and angry is definitely not the solution. :drunk :ang2 2guns 2guns :bj2 :banghead

So what are your options?

You could consider relocating as Sinkorswim has suggested but that destroys possibly your wider families source of income and ruins the work you have put in to develop the land you have. Finding a buyer may also be difficult unless you sell to this thug and if you sold to someone else he may still be bent on revenge and track you or your family down to wherever you move to.

Involving the local media as Eneukman has suggested may well encourage the Police to take action but if the Thug was arrested and ended up in prison his resentment is likely to just fester and his determination to get his revenge, grow. If he is from a local Mafia type organisation there are probably others who could cause further trouble on his behalf and you may find yourself no better off, constantly having to look over your shoulder and possibly relocate anyway.

IMHO I think that possibly one solution may be to pay him off. You have chosen to live in a country where money talks and corruption is sadly rife and it may be a case of 'if you can't beat them, join them'. Perhaps a little for the Police Chief may also help oil the wheels and move things in your favour?

Now while I am sure it would make you feel very bitter and hateful towards this thug, money may well placate him and be the best form of protection for your family, which is what you are trying to achieve.

The trouble is ensuring that he does not simply blow your wad (so to speak!) and come crawling back for more at a later date. Maybe some sort of legal agreement drawn up by a lawyer might be an option or simply by spreading the payments over a number of months or years.

In a few months or so, you're going to be raking in 400,000 baht a month so a reasonably large pay-off shouldn't hurt your pocket too much (just your pride).

So while I have not been impressed at many of your posts, and it may well turn your stomach to read a reply from a "Pommie Twit" or a "Shit Teethed Brit" you don't deserve to have your family threatened and intimidated in the manner you have described.

One final word of warning, if you do decide to murder this guy in a drunken rage, it's likely to be you who will end up as someones bitch and you who will be walking around like you have something shoved up your arse (and it won't be a stick!) and it will be, whose cock your lips, are round rather than Tony Blairs that you will have to worry about. Life in Prison is not something I would look forward to :llaugh

But in all seriousness -I hope you do manage to find a sensible and workable solution and carry on enjoying life as it should be in the Land of Smiles - Good luck or as we say over here - "The Best of British"!

I concur with postman. The police have already told you what they are not going to do. I would move. Better to be alive and in a different location then spend the rest of your life in a Thai lock up. Good luck.

A meeting is set for today at the police station between the in-laws and this fucking cock sucker. The in-laws are going to sell the land and business if he provides a reasonable offer. Key word being reasonable.

We have entered into negotiations to purchase 10 rai of land in another city about 30 kilometers North of where we are now. The "reasonable" offer will be needed for the down payment on the land. Not a bad place. It has several apartments buildings and a large building that will be used for our recycling business.

Price tag is pretty good for what we would get. 20 million baht for this place is a damn good buy. But I am not the stupid farang that pays for everything. My wife's family run their own busienss, with their own money. The only thing I do for them is point them in the right direction, and hook them up with foreign buyers.

With any luck, we will be moving to our new place before too long.

If you think that all that stuff about the British is actually what I think, then you are more gullable than I expected.

I love a good wind up, and it seems as the Brits are the easiest to wind up. Maybe because they still resent us for whipping their ass and taking control of our own country?

Most of the Thai police will not do anything. The tour police though are quite different. Stop by your local tour police station and tell them you would like to speak to an investigater.
