Welcome to the board retep1. I think keny's advice is good. Tickets are generally cheaper at the Thai end. You may need to show a return ticket out of Thailand so a one way in will not be good enough.

flew from AMS-Zurich-BKK had to present myself at the gate for a ticket passport

check this happend at amsterdam and zurich on both legs.

Tickets and passport controlled how long was I staying in thailand etc,it was painless

but everybody was checked.

"how long you stay Thailand" -"I am not going to Thailand I am flying straight on to Phnom Phen"-"Phnom Phen in Thailand?" .I was thrown by that a bit so I said "no in Laos"

but that was OK they let me on.
