Habitu - New wine bar and restaurant

Recommended Posts

Just a quick review of this new restaurant.

My collegue and I went in pretty early. Only one other couple there. We started with a G&T and then moved on to the wine. My friend is a bit of a wine buff and was impressed with the quality and selection but not the price. It was a tad expensive.

As we decided what to do we chatted to the manager, Alex. He has high hopes for the place and I have to agree that there is a growing market for upscale eateries in the Pattaya area. The furnishing were pleasant and the staff attentive. Alex treated us to a small selection of his starters. The mozzerella was particularly good.

My friend is not shy about telling somebody if he thinks the price is too much and he boldly told Alex exactly what he thought about paying 700 baht for a steak without side dishes.

Saying that, when the steak arrived, it was excellent and perfectly cooked. I was very impressed with the presentation and the quality.

I really hope this business does well as Alex seems to be good guy and the quality of food and service speaks for itself.

If you have a spare evening, enjoy your wine and quality food, then I would highly recommend a visit.

Cheers!

Thanks for the restaurant review. I will definitely check it out when I am in Pattaya in January.

700 baht for an excellent steak. I know this is expensive by Pattaya standards, but it sounds like about the best steak you can find in Pattaya. Ruth Chris Steakhouse in the U.S. charges twice this amount for a steak without sides. As long as the steak is top-notch, I don't have a problem with this price, although I would expect something in that price range in Bangkok, and not Pattaya.

59 days and counting 'til wheels up.

Lets face it, Bt700 could be part of a Bt1000 meal or a Bt3000 meal. What were starters, what were set menus, what were desserts ?

House wine ? Where is wine largely from ? Mid range prices ? Champagne ? etc.

Sorry but we need more.

My personal belief and this is supported by my driving up and down Thappraya Road a few times a day, is that the area cannot support all these restaurants.

I mean, you now have:

Pan Pan (probably the cheapest of the bunch)

Indian by Nature

Gians

Cuvee

Habitu

Brunos

Manhattans

Mata Hari

as well as a couple of support acts.

I cannot see how they can make money, even at high and sometimes very high prices.
