Airbus and Boeing products running behind schedule

Recommended Posts

Singapore Airlines was the world's first carrier to fly the A380 in 2007 and has 14 of them in its fleet.

Hi,

At least the bugger is in commercial operation. Any news on the Nightmareliner ? It seems as absent as you've been.

You guys will have to carry on this ridiculous topic without BigD, but rest assured, he will be able to read it.

So few Rolls Royce Trent engines used on the A380 and so many problems.

Hong Kong Airlines places $3.8bn Airbus A380 order

Hong Kong Airlines (HKA) has placed an order for 10 Airbus A380 aircraft worth about $3.8bn (£2.5bn) at list prices.

The contract will be a relief for the European planemaker, as the order risked being derailed by a dispute between the European Union and China.

Beijing opposes an EU plan that international airlines comply with a scheme to tackle carbon emissions.

But Kenneth Thong, HKA's corporate governance head, told a television interview the order would go ahead.

The carrier, which has ambitious expansion plans, is likely to have got a big discount on the order for the super-jumbo aircraft.

Mr Thong said the aircraft were needed to help boost the airline's growth, particularly in the development of business class services with Europe.

HKA has previously ordered Airbus A330s, which will be used for services between Hong Kong and several European cities.

Mr Thong told Bloomberg television in Hong Kong: "We think the business connection between Asia and Europe is going to be very exciting for the next couple of years, after the current (economic) crisis is over. We are planning for the aftermath."

It had been expected that HKA would announce a large A380 order last year.

But the Financial Times newspaper reported that this was held up over the China's opposition to the EU's carbon emissions trading scheme, which would involve airlines paying additional costs.

The US also has concerns about the scheme.

The contract will take Airbus's order backlog to 188. Airbus reportedly declined to comment ahead of a formal announcement of the contract on 17 January.

Nice start to the year for Airbus! :P

I agree it's a great start. It's a big order. Well done Airbus!

I mooched around but was unable to determine which engines were going with this order.

I know you aren't impressed with the RR Trents.

No, that is your job. What took you so long to report the old news?

How about how ANA managed to hit one of their new 787s with a

truck?

Haven't heard anything about exploding engines a la the QANTAS

a380,, but as ANA is using Rolls engines, maybe that is a possibility. :)

Hi,

Good results for Airbus. Carbon tax is a nonsense that will have commercial consequences if it's not scrapped!

WTO confirms Boeing subsidies illegal

_51948127_boeing.jpg The dispute between Boeing and rival Airbus has been going on for seven years

The World Trade Organization (WTO) has upheld most of its ruling that Boeing received illegal subsidies from the US government.

It said the US plane manufacturer, which is the arch-rival of Europe's Airbus, was given $5bn (£3.2bn, 3.8bn euros) in illegal government subsidies.

That is much less than the $18bn an earlier ruling found Airbus had received from the EU.

The WTO's appeals panel has now ruled on both sides of the dispute.

Each side claimed a partial victory.

The European Commission, which complained to the WTO, said it welcomed the confirmation of Boeing's subsidies, which it received between 1989 and 2006.

EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Guch called Monday's ruling vindication of the "EU's long-held claims that Boeing has received massive US government handouts in the past and continues to do so today".

His counterpart, US Trade Representative Ron Kirk, called the ruling "a tremendous victory for American manufacturers and workers".

Mr Kirk said US subsidies to Boeing cost Airbus 118 lost aircraft sales, while EU subsidies for Airbus cost Boeing 342 lost aircraft sales.

The subsidies included at least $2.6bn in assistance from the space agency Nasa, which the WTO's appellate body agreed had allowed the US company to launch its modern 787 Dreamliner, causing "serious prejudice" to its European rival.

The dispute between the two firms over state aid has been running for seven years.

HI,

Maybe this will convince some on here that Boeing likes a subsidy as much as anyone. Wonder what BigD thinks of all the money the banks have been given. :cry2

The comment was really about illegal subsidies. You have been very vocal on this subject in relation to Airbus here in the past. Care to comment on Boeing and them having their snouts in there too?

Yep, the Boeing fanboys have gone very quiet on the matter and will no doubt claim they were just waiting for us lot to bring up the subject.

They have also been very quiet on the slow deliveries of the 7LATE7...... How many have been delivered since September last year? it it 5? And they are still suffering manufacturing problems..... :allright

My god.... I had to go looking for this thread... it had disappeared onto the second page!!!

Looks like Emirates are planning on ordering some more A380's!!!

http://www.reuters.c...ype=marketsNews

(Reuters) - Confirming growing demand for the world's largest airliner, a top executive of Emirates Airline said on Thursday the company would be willing to buy another 40 Airbus A380 jets, but that the fast-growing Dubai airport where the airline is based is short of room for them.

Emirates Airline President Tim Clark had already said the airline wants another 30 A380s, on top of 90 already on order. Increasing that number to 40 suggests demand is rising for the A380 made by the Airbus unit of Europe's EADS.

Emirates, by far the largest customer for the A380, whose list price is $390 million, had 23 of the superjumbo jets in service at the end of August.

Clark, speaking at an industry conference in Seattle, said there are seven A380s waiting in Hamburg, Germany, for delivery as part of the normal deliver schedule. He is not worried about his airline's strong growth being affected by recession in Europe, slowing growth in China and unrest in the Middle East. Dubai, he said, "is a honey pot. There is no place better, except maybe China."

Clark has been ratcheting up his demand for the 525-seat A380 jet since he surprised the aviation world in 2010 by saying the airline could buy 120 of the aircraft.

Emirates, one of Dubai's most prized assets, has continued to grow rapidly despite a regional debt crisis followed by a wider recession affecting the airline industry and high fuel prices.

"We don't cancel orders," Clark said. "We get on with it."

If Emirates carried out its ambition of operating a fleet of 130 A380s, adding 40 to its current order of 90, it would control a fleet worth over $50 billion at list prices and extend its dominance as the European planemaker' s largest customer.
