Does anyone have any experience with netbank? I'm just using it to get an ATM card and send it to my wife's family.

Here are the advantages as I see them:

*free checking account (no minimum balance required)

*no ATM fees

*free and easy to transfer money from my existing bank account

They said the only fees I would incur would be from the bank in Thailand. Does anybody know this amount? And is one bank better than the other?

I applied online for a Netbank account. I received an email from them stating that they needed more information and that they were sending me a snail mail detailing what they needed. That was three weeks ago and I have NOT received the letter.

I have been using it for years and have never had a problem. I have direct depoits made into the account and get my money when I need it through ATMs. No fees and tey pay interest on checking accounts.

Gary,

I'd bet the delay has to do with the fact that you're not using a USA address. Just send them an email and bug them. Tell them you still haven't heard back from them. It shouldn't be any big deal to open an account.

I replied to their email and got a message back that the address was for information only and was not monitored. I went back to their website and told them that I applied on-line for an account and the rest of the story. I'm waiting to hear from them.

Gary,

Just a thought, but I thinkthat you can check the status of your application right on their web site. I remember doing that. It took them a few hours to approve my account.

  • 5 months later...

Have had an account for a number of years and have used their ATM card in any number of countries including Thailand, Vietnam and Holland - never had a problem. Very user friendly and good customer service. Also saw the new $500 minimum.

When I was working, I used to have part of my paycheck sent to my Netbank account, but now that I'm retired, I don't use the account much, unless I transfer money to it from my B of A account. The big advantage was the "no fee" ATM. Anyway, the new minimum balance is $500.

Washington Mutual also has a no-fee ATM, or at least they used to. That would be another choice.
