I just found something out that might be of interest to some of you guys, you know I've been trying find a GOOD voip for Thailand, well today I called my current provider which is Vonage and they tell me that if I bring my unit from the States with me to Thailand and use it on my dsl there that I can call all I want to the States for free! and anybody who wants to call me can still call my local # and the call will be forwarded to my box in Thailand! now for calls within Thailand I need to use my cell or international rates will apply! sounds to good to be true!

Captain,

Not sure what your needs are.

When I visit from the states I need to be able to sit in my room with my laptop and both make and receive calls.

I have been using a service called NetZero Voice. For $15.00 per month you receive a "land line" phone # with the area code of your choice. You may make calls to other land lines within the US, Canada, etc. for no charge. Others may call you at your assigned number with no charge to you. I forward both my cell # and land line to my NetZero assigned number and it rings on the computer or goes into voice mail. Most of my clients do not even know I am abroad.

You can sign up for as little as one month. And the first month is free.

Have used it the last 3-4 trips. You need a broadband connection.

I use Vonage for my landline at home too. The problem with bringing your Vonage router with you is your home will be left without service if there is anybody there

  • 5 weeks later...

I strongly recommend yopu do not use VONAGE. I had a trial service in the UK and the system just doesn't work , ie you frequently get "a lines are busy" message. When I rang up to cancel the service on their 30 day money back guarantee the every rude operative told me he was debiting £23.99 from my account as a cancelletaion charge. When I pointed out this was against our agreement he said he was going top do it anyway and they did. At the moment they have taken/stolen approximately £50 for a worthless service which I am trying to get back.

DON'T USE VONAGE - THE SERVICE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE ARE CRAP AND THE COMPANY IS DISHONEST.
