Thailand on " restricted list "

booked ticket today for may 1-28 trip on Thaiair website and when pay screen filled out, rejected my Visa, said to call card issuer,tried three times with like result. called credit union and was told card department has Thailand on restricted list. woman could not tell me when or why. I replied, half joking, i will come in tomorrow and close and move to another institution. her reply was " that's fine, it's your money ". now im not joking, they wont miss my few beans but, WTF? anyone with CU account know of this? joe.

Where you on the Thai Air USA site or the Thai site ?

 

The problem may go away if you're on the USA site.

 

If that fails, call VISA and not your CU, - plenty of us use VISA cards in LOS.

I was in Sakon Nakhon (NE Thailand) in January. I wanted to book a flight where the first leg was on PB Air and the second on Nok Air. I went to the PB Air office in town and they booked both legs. I could pay for the PB Air flight with cash but not the Nok Air leg. I gave them my Visa card (issued by a US bank) and after a while they came back and told me that it was unacceptable -- only credit cards issued by Thai banks could be used. I didn't have one of those nor did anyone I knew. They gave me a number and told me to go to any 7-11. I did that and when I gave the 7-11 guy the number he entered it into the cash register and then it displayed "Nok Air" followed by the price.

 

I paid him and the receipt from the register became my ticket.

 

I was kind of amazed.
