I am going to Thailand in February. just been looking on Evas website, and it says the plane they use (lhr-bkk and return) is a 747? Yet the last 2 times I went with them it was a 777! I gues they havent changed their web-site? or have they started flying 747s fro heathrow again? (id be amazed if they have!).

Im just debating wether to book now (or at least by tomorrow -when offer runs out!), West East have quoted me £454, trouble is that will be an H class ticket-which wont give me any mileage!. so Im not sure wether to book now, or wait a bit and at least get the mileage credited to my account! Ah! decisions decisions! lol!

Eva are changing from the 777 to refurbished 747s on the LHR route, I think that this happens from early December.

Hmmmmmmmmn! at least elite class is a lot better on the 747s Gus! May book on elite class then..............if I can get a cheap enough fare! ..................BUT! saying that, Im sure Eva have a promotion (on their web-site)for Laurel class for about 1,600 euros from Amsterdam?

Yes I concur.I have a ticket booked with Eva Air for 23rd January 2008 LHR-BKK-LHR and I was quite surprised to see the aircraft listed as a 747-400.I had pushed the boat out a little this time though and had opted to try the "enhanced economy" option.However from the comments I read on this board vis a vis enhanced economy 777 versus 747 on EvaAir it would appear that the 747 option is the better of the two The West East fare at £454 seems to be reasonable but understand no airmiles and perhaps by now you have gone for it.It may be worth waiting a few weeks to confirm whether or not Eva are using 747's or 777's and if the latter,from what I have found through looking at E Bookers,Flightline etc you still should be able to get a Y class ticket with Eva for around £450 including the associated airmiles.

The new 747s are scheduled from the 2nd of December. I have all the information in a 9MB document. I just haven't got around to opening it as of yet.

As a matter of interest!.................does the 747s have a seat back T.V. in economy? I think I will wait to book with Eva, to try and get a ticket which allows mileage accrual, I have about 30K ish with them at the mo!

Jack I just phoned Evas L ondon office (answered quite promptly and polite too!) , the girl I spoke with said they will be using 747s from December 4th. So I guess I will wait for a bit before I book, and see if I can get a good deal with elite (as elite is far better on their jumbos than 777s!), or else get a ticket with 100% mileage accrual in economy. Then as i have 34,882 miles already, I will be able to up-grade from economy to elite both ways! Heres hoping!.

 

I used to fly Thai all the time, but I find Eva are better now? Anybody else feel the same?.!

I think that you'll find that Eva fly the old 747 from AMS, which means no PL, just First, Business etc, on that route the Evergreen deluxe is probably the best bet.

Not sure where you are based but I looked at paying my own fare on Easy etc to connect at Amsterdam.

i was thinking about doing that last year,but got a good deal with thai.

I am going to amsterdam in october so will check some travel agents there.

The link above is saying 929 euros which is 630 pound including taxes for eva deluxe which i have flown before and thought it was great but have not tried elite because of bad reports when i phoned them last year i remember them being a lot cheaper than elite from heathrow,i will get a price of them including shuttle from manchester but i think easy jet will be cheaper 40 return and have a night in amsterdam from what you have saved

I fly evaair and I've found the 777's to be better then the 747's. But I haven't tried the refurbished 747's yet. My one complaint is it is difficult to use the miles i've accumulated. I booked my flight 3 months in advance and I purchase economy. I was hoping to upgrade to evergreen delux because I have over 70,000 miles available and an upgrade is only 20,000 (Lax to Taiwan). No luck, they said there were no upgrades available. I booked it 3 months in advance and no upgrades available. Screw them. Next time I'll be looking for another airline.

I have been flying with EVA since they started and have a gold Evergreen Card. However in the last year or so EVA have really lost the plot.

 

Mileage awards have been reduced, Elite on the 777 is more expensive and inferior to Evergreen on the 747 but worst of all Special Offer tickets now are limited to 30 days duration which is no good to me as I come for 3, 2, & 2 months each year.

 

Although I regret the loss of the benfits my gold card gave me when flying EVA I have now been flying with Singapore Airlines & having a stopover in Singapore. On one occasion I flew with Cathay Pacific also with stopovers. These 2 airlines are arguably the best in the world and it shows. Their professionalism & efficiency especially in the airports before boarding, where EVA were to put it kindly shambolic, puts EVA to shame.

 

However the real surprise was that I have been paying less than even the 30 day special offer tickets with EVA. NB I have been flying the complete route with SQ not economising by flying the 2nd leg with a budget carrier.

 

I have posted several reports about EVA in the past glowing in the early days and critical of late, but only recently have I put my money on it by flying with SQ - Roll on my SQ Gold Card.

I just consider Y class to be an "economy" fare and unfortunately that link is now not showing that particular fare(£458.66) but I'm sure all are aware of the dynamic nature of these online "bucket shops" and subsequent ever changing offers but the fare I quoted at the time of posting was displayed and available

Having seen this thread I decided to check on my end of year visit itinerary.

 

I leave London on November 28th and the aircraft is shown as a 777 but for the return on January 20th it is a 747.

 

I personally prefer the 747's over the 777 as I always fly Business Class and find the 747 upper deck more comfortable than the Premier Laurel on the new planes.

Those relatively cheap fares from THAI/EVA are generally quite restricted. ie. Non refundable, 100% cancellation fees, date changes expensive....

Thanks,I will, but my gut reaction is that they would consider this to be quite an unusual request !

 

The only time I have had a full economy ticket is when on corporate business and the company is paying,

but for a long time now a lot of companies have been tightening their purse strings regarding the high price of a fully flexible economy ticket.

 

OK, but what person in their right mind would pay the price for a full economy ticket ? Methinks nowadays it could be considered almost to be something of an "abstract" item.Yes I know shit happens ,and life can throw up circumstances that make changes unavoidable;However I would imagine that the vast majority of peoples trips to LOS are carefully planned,with their travel dates,hotel reservations and precious time off from work etc etc just about written in stone...mine certainly are, and with all that in mind I reckon the obvious thing to do is to go for the best value air fare

FWIW I agree that Eva Air mileage programme is poor with reduced miles for flights plus difficulty in finding availability for upgrades etc. Usually they say no availability for upgrading with miles then you check seatcounter etc and the plane is only half full.

 

Am I correct in saying that the low cost tickets are usually only valid for 30 days?

It looks as if Travelmood are mistakenly charging the extra £40 that would be paid if flying Elite or PL.

 

 

Yes, generally one month tickets with, at least, a £75 charge for changing the return date if necessary.

I didn't know I could sell them. Have you had trouble using your miles for an upgrade from economy to evergreen delux? I don't know why I can't receive a private message. With Eva Airways can you purchase a decent priced discount ticket even if you are staying over 30 days?

 

I have seen tickets valid for up to 30 days for around £480 but a ticket valid for 3 months comes out at just over £700.

I suppose that is why tickets are heavily discounted, because they are only valid for a month.
