It's highly likely the airline won't like that, and could even refuse to carry you. You need a visa to show you live in Thailand, or you need a ticket out. Same at Thai immigration when you arrive, although in practice they seldom ask and usually you can sneak through.

The airline will not assume responsibility for taking you out if Thailand refuses to let you in, which is possible if you don't have a return/outward bound ticket.

My take is that you need some serious visa work before you put your plan into action.

It seems a pretty expensive way of going about things.

Just buy a return ticket with 3 or 6 month validity with the return date 90 days after your outbound flight. Most airlines will allow you to change the return date after you arrive in Thailand for a nominal fee (25-100 USD).

Seems like getting an open return, or buying a ticket that allows you change the date is the best option.

Visa and immigration issues aside, did you try shopping for that one way ticket to Thailand yet?.. They often work out as much as a return. I have bought one way from LOS, you often see them advertised on Soi Post Office, but in January, particularly early January, there will be little availability. The muslim holiday of Eid al Adha will be around 18-24 Dec this year too.

Excellent point. I've never seen one that was less than two-thirds the return price, and usually they are more.

Points taken.Going to book Eitad £480 october ish with return in feb but I can extend it for £76 to return withing 6months.Sound good?
The £76 sounds a little steep..... although I admit to not having done this for a while. It all depends on the 'class' of your booking and the class/code you have to change it to. (There are quite a lot of codes for economy, most of the consonants and a vowel or two).

Overall it is likely cheaper than a one way bought from the UK... plus a one way bought in LOS.

I end up needing one way tickets as I often get single leg awards tickets.
